The SNES had an extensive library

We did, game boy advance.

they're pretty decent.

and metroid is only fun and challenging when you're very young,

it's super easy when you're older, and the play mechanics are more obvious.

Welcome Newb! Your post was very unhelpful!
I sincerely hope you get dandruff on your butt hair.

Well, Super Metroid came out in 94, and the Nintendo 64 came out on 96 so that was probably why. Also, the guy (Gumpei Yokoi) behind Super Metroid was probably working on the VB right after Super Metroid was released. The VB had like only one AAA title and that was Wario Land.

Perhaps a better question would be... why didn't the Nintendo 64 get a Metroid game?

I should note that I was saddened that the creator of the Game Boy, VB, and Metroid died so young (in 97). He contributed a lot to society, and helped Nintendo out immensely, but then they fired him if I'm not mistaken.

Prime was supposed to be on 64DD but got stuck in development hell; I'm very glad it came out on the Gamecube though. It translated very well to the system although I can't help but wonder how many more fans of the Prime series there would be if Prime came out on the 64, Echoes came out on the Cube and Corruption on the Wii. It would've been a very well spaced trilogy, but it worked out fine.

Anyway, it's one of my favorite games of all time and actually just finished it again today. (Ironic I come across this thread).

Snes library was pretty impressive. Even though it just had 1 metroid and 1 zelda , they are both ridiculously good and arguably the best of each series ever released, a link to the past for sure imo, with that one on philips CDi a close second of course.

Wait, are you talking about the 3 Zelda games released on the CD-i?

What about the N64? Both Ocarina and Majora were awesome games.

they were both one and the same game... with just a new story.
Similar to Oracle of Seasons and Ages.

also TP was released on the Wii, and later ported back to the GC, different console generation.

TP was always meant for the GC, but got delayed a year to make it a launch title for the Wii. It was never "ported".

Because SNES was the best game console ever made.

Today it's all about nickel and diming Call of Duty sequels and targeting lowest common denominator casual retards who think going in a straight line from point A to point B killing the same anonymous bad guys over and over again with the occasional scripted explosions is "gaming".

Put them in a game like Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, Zelda, etc and they get lost and lose interest because there are no guns, boobs, explosions and most importantly no huge f**king arrow holding their hand and telling their ADHD a** where to go at all times.

PS Super Metroid is AWESOME x 9001 on a Sony PVM RGB CRT and Klipsch 2.1 sound system. It's like taking candy coated razor blades to your ears and eyeballs. If you are into classic games you owe it to yourself to ditch the RF/composite and play them on original hardware in RGB glory.

Funny you mention all that; I can't stand it either.

I'm curious about this. All this time I've been emulating the oldies and thought I was getting the best experience. Set me straight.

I dug up your old thread "Retro Gaming: RGB vs NTSC" and I assume you must have linked pictures to your original post but they are no longer there. Could you re-post/upload them?

If you prefer digital video/audio coming from PC over the svideo/composite or if you're lucky RGB from the SNES but with some accuracy issues (SA-1/SuperFX games tend to run a bit slower or faster) and don't mind the small lag you'll want to use an emulator.

Probably because Miyamoto works some 80-100 hours a week and was busy on other nintendo products. It's something like MARIO MARIO MARIO zelda MARIO MARIO zelda MARIO MARIO MARIO star fox. As for metroid, the guy died after Super.

Sorry, that sentence was extremely convoluted, I couldn't follow it. When do I want to use an emulator?

seems pointless to just oversaturate a platform as limiting as a 16 bit system was with more and more of the same.
I liked super metroid, but i wouldnt have purchased another back then less it made enough changes to keep it fresh. Might not have sold that great with street fighter style games being such a rage for so long

Majora's Mask is definitely not the same game as OoT with a different story. It just looks similar because a lot of the NPC models were recycled. It's widely considered to be a black sheep in the Zelda series. Basic gameplay is similar but the time limit, mask characters, and level of NPC interaction were pretty unique at the time. I hope Nintendo ports it to the 3DS. I didn't play it as much as OoT but it was certainly a much deeper game.

And the Gamecube had Windwaker and Twilight Princess

Windwaker was a steaming turd.

Twilight Princess was made specifically for the Wii to showcase the wiimote, but was also made for the poor people who only had a shitty gamecube.

no it wasnt. it was made for gamecube and ported to wii with gimmicky waggle controls.

This. Funny, I bought the GC version for me and the Wii version for my son because I hated the gimmicky controls of the Wii. I still use and love my GC. All Zelda games, with the exception of Zelda 2(NES) all 3 of the CDI versions, and Majoras Mask, were freaking great!

I thought it was probably the best Zelda game I've finished other than the bittersweet ending. I thought Zelda II sucked and OoT had great gameplay, but the story of the latter was just so damn dark. I haven't played enough TP to make a judgement on it. I thought Link to the Past was better than Ocarina of Time but not as good overall as Wind Waker. LttP did have the best ending, but it just wasn't the most fun, it was an earlier Super NES game so it couldn't be the pinnacle of 2D graphics, and I found the art quality the most lacking of any Zelda game I've played. Wind Waker's graphics weren't that great from a technical perspective, but I liked the art style.
