Everyone today is lazy as hell. All you hear is some diet pills/method that makes you lose weight WITHOUT EXERCISE. Lazy tubs, I tell ya. I have never in my life see a consistent.. CONSISTENT person who exercises be overweight. They might never be petite, but they're in damn decent shape.

Smokers crack me up. You have them all huddled outside the door in the dead of winter, shivering, sucking down their 30 cent waste. Makes me laugh. Then they get ugly real fast, especially the women, and die sooner and in a much more pathetic way than normal people.

I just hate smokers because I hate walking into a restaurant and smelling all that crap. Thanks a lot. You're in a food place for what, an hour at MOST. God forbid you go an hour without a smoke. Let them die, it's their fault for the most part.

The government intends to tax anything people find enjoyable. Pretty soon there will be a tax on sex.

And that could get expensive since I usually enjoy a smoke after sex.

You know, its people like you that make this world a great place to live in. People die of cancer and emphysema every day, smokers and non-smokers alike. People have all sorts of addictions, everybody has one. And I am sick and tired of people on their high horses telling others what they should do with their lives, and if they don't listen, then saying things like you said. I can understand telling somebody you love or care about to quit, because you do not want to lose them. But blanket statements such as yours are cruel and stupid. Didn't you ever hear the saying, if you don't have anything nice to say, then keep your mouth shut?

Everybody I know who ever quit successfully did it cold turkey. But most people I know who have tried to quit haven't been able too. I'm glad I never started. It must be real hard to quit. Unless you once smoked and have since quit, you probably don't really know how hard it is to quit.

AMEN! GirlFriday!

I just hate smokers because I hate walking into a restaurant and smelling all that crap. Thanks a lot. You're in a food place for what, an hour at MOST. God forbid you go an hour without a smoke.

And I hate going into a restaurant where I have to wait for a Smoking Section table or I can't light up because the restaurant has banned all smoking. I too like to sit down and enjoy a meal. Part of my meal enjoyment is to light up a cigarette between the meal and dessert. Of course many times this cigarette (when I can have one) is interuptted by some jackass sitting close to me in the "nonsmoking" section asking me, "Do you mind putting that out. It's bothering me." I usually repond with, "Yes, I mind putting it out. I'm sitting in a smoking area enjoying my cigarette." You self-righteous nonsmokers annoy me to no end.

I agree with you totally GF ...If you have never smoked before and was truely addicted to cigarrettes...Your opinion don't mean $hit to me. A former Hardcore smoker would have the understanding and sensitivity of this whole matter Unlike the bunkmates shudder and Buddha Fart :)

"Understanding and sensitivity" are not truth.

Buddha Bart,
Your suppression of my freedom is "killing" me. You are obviously one of the self-righteous nonsmokers that believe that 100% of all smokers will die directly from smoking. Please show me that evidence. For every piece of evidence that show that smoking WILL kill you, I can show you evidence of 90-100yr old people that are very healthy and smoking heavily yet Have you ever smoked so that you can say, "I have walked in your shoes"?
I present myself....I went through a smoking study held by the Univ of Nebraska Med College. For 8 weeks I was to try a "smokeless" cigarette. (It heated the nicotene instead of burning it.) Before results of their scoping and probing my lungs and testing snipets......ALL Negative. They had a very hard time believing that at one point I was smoking 3-4 packs a day and at that time I was smoking an average of 3 packs a day. My lungs looked as healthy as a a nonsmoker my age. There was evidence of smoking but it was negligible. After results...SAME. I had the head of the study look down and say "I shouldn't say this as a medical professional, but you will probably be the type that will smoke and drink all your life and live to be 100"
I am in the military and must stay in shape. I can no longer jog due to physical problems incurred in my career. But I must perform an aerobic event on a physical fitness test 2X a year. I am allowed to bike 6.2 miles. I have to bike that distance in 25:00 on a stationary bike with a difficult resistance setting. I consistiently bike 6.2 miles in 14-15minutes. Could I be an exception to the rule? Sure. Could I keel over next year having a heart attack? Sure. IN THE MEAN TIME, ALLOW ME MY FREEDOM OF CHOICE. STOP CHOKING ME AND OTHER SMOKERS WITH YOUR SELF-RIGHTEOUS VIEWS. I have already choked on you smothering my right to smoke in my office, in many restaurants, in many bars, and sporting events. Can I at least enjoy the pleasure of NOT LISTENING to you people choke me with your self-righteous views?

This wasn't meant to be a flame war. Smoking sucks, and it'd be nice if no-one was addicted to it. A lot of people have died from smoking, which may include my dad some day (hopefully not). The sole purpose of this thread was to maybe ward off some of the younger members from trying to smoke, and to maybe motivate current smokers to change thier ways. Flaming and bashing eachother won't accomplish anything, so give it a rest.

The crybabies come out of the woodwork when a flamewar starts, don't they? Waaaa. Waaaaaa.. Walk away from the computers, crybabies.. Does it REALLY matter if someone else hundreds (if not thousands) of miles away from you doesn't agree with you?

But T4NNER,
I personally don't want to change my ways. As for my kids. (I have three) I hope they don't pick up smoking. It's an expensive habit.

Of course, I also don't want my kids to join the military and become lifers like their old man. (It's a terrible, ungrateful profession)

But the point is, it is their life(s) and I am not here to criticize their decisions. My role is to guide them away from having to make those unwise decisions.

ace: frankly my beef isnt with smokers. I was only pointing out the addiction-sympathy fallacy to ausm.

So long as *I* don't have to experience your chemicals, I don't care if you shoot heroin into your eye sockets. (seriously, I don't, have fun)

I have a bio textbook that says even current day smokers inhale less smoke than our ancestors due to the fact that we used to live around campfires and in relied on wood burning well up into the 20th century. It didn't give any numbers or anything, but its an interesting concept that makes sense to me.
