The sky is dumping snow right now.

No visible flakes outside my window as of 2 minutes ago although it's been overhead for awhile according to radar.

My daughter in Bangor, ME will be getting LESS accumulation than Connecticut from this storm ... 2020 so no surprise there.

It's dumping snow here too...but it's warm enough that it's liquid instead of frozen... :p

8-15 expected here. Got the snowblower running earlier today and very excited for it. I love snow!

We have a bit of snow here but nothing much. Maybe a couple cm on the ground at most. Temp has dropped though been fairly cold, like -20's. Been meaning to redo my solar panel setup so that it can produce year round by tilting them more vertical, but it's kind of cold to be messing around with that.

It's dumping down here now too, definitely don't want to be driving right now. Couple inches stuck already. Took the dog for a walk and he was incredibly joyful. He absolutely loves the white stuff.

I'm so looking forward to a winter without shoveling now that I've moved. And being above freezing the vast majority of the time is pretty great too.

Up to 14" expected here, but we always seem to get more and I get a lot of drifts around my house. The snowblower is gassed up and ready to go!

For the first time in a year,I shoveled.

God damn I am out of shape.

About to go dig out my car ... unfortunately I have a dead TPMS sensor at the moment which in my Honda prevents switching the traction-control off.

Normally this isn't that big of a deal provided you remember to check your tire-pressure BUT it prevents wheel-spin which in heavy snow can be very helpful getting unstuck.

I have a paltry 3" of snow outside, storm is tracking way more south and missing us for the most part.

Just spoke with a coworker though, one of her employees is throwing her hands up and giving up on coming into work. It's snowing so hard in Southern VT they told the plow trucks to stop, cops are telling people not to get in a car unless it has chains on it. 38"-40" of snow so far.

The people who spent extra on an Ariens are going to be patting themselves on the back today.

Here in MD, not much more than maybe 1 inch of accumulation and the southern areas got more rain, but the wintry mix is actually more dangerous than snow because ice is slippery as hell.

we ended up with a little over an inch of snow. It's flurrying right now here.

If there is one thing that can remind you how out of shape you are, it's shoveling lol.

I did surprisingly well for an old man extracting my car from the glacier the plows encapsulated it in... freaking snow was literally over the hood!

We got roughly a foot here but fortunately it wasn't all that heavy ... still it took me about 90 minutes of hard labor to clear a path to the plowed part of the street.

Took my time and when I started getting winded I took a 2 minute break so as to avoid dropping dead! Pretty sure I'll be feeling it tomorrow anyway though!

Air has that certain smell.
Why does snow smell differently from rain?

Getting back to your question....it does, at least it seems to me it does. Maybe it has to do with the shape of the precipitation; i.e. rain, which is water droplets, would seem to me to pass through the air with something approaching a "smooth" surface while snow passes through the air as frozen flakes, which have a "rough" surface in comparison.

The reason that may be significant is that snow is probably removing more pollution from the air as it passes through it as it falls vs. rain, hence the differing smells?
