The Sims 2 Slowdown

When I zoom out all the way, or even so that much of my house is in view, I get severe slowdown. Or even the intro movie into the neighborhood. Why is it doing this? I have the DVD version. I am running 2.8GHz P4 w/ 9800 Pro and dual channel PC3200 ram.
 
No it doesn't Doom 3 at 30 frames, but friggin sims 2 doesn't work right. I have the latest drivers.
 
I have the same issue, I think it's just that the Sims 2 engine doesn't handle this very well (scrolling while zoomed out). It doesn't really effect actual gameplay though, so I can live with it.
 
I believe it's the game engine.

I had to lower the details to bare minimum for it to run alright.

Other than that, it's a fun game.
