I love the older Simpsons episodes. I think they were great up until season 10. Season 10 had a couple of stinkers too, but it had some great episodes as well. I don't feel like going into why I hate the new Simpsons episodes, I am more curious about other peoples' opinions. So does anyone else think it should be cancelled?
 
I've watched a couple of the new season, and they aren't really a comedy any more. The last one I watched was a flashback to the 90s where Homer had a grunge band... it was more a shitty attempt at drama than anything.
 
I've found with the last few seasons, they aren't very funny the first time, but when you see it again on repeat, its better.

You're obviously alll still watching. Why on earth would they cancel it when everyone still watches?

I have seen a couple minutes here and there and a couple episodes, and then the reruns which are peppered with the new seasons. They are so bad i can't watch more than a couple minutes. Horrible writing.

IMHO I kind of get the feeling that it's hip to dis the Simpsons and say "Seasons 1-whatever were the best, the rest suck". Honestly they still make me crack up even today, not by everything but they can still pack a comedic punch when they want.

It may be hip, it's also right. The show sucks now. It has for years. All the talent is gone, and any that isn't has long since been sucked dry. But the show will still draw viewers and make money because there are enough people out there who will watch anything (except the History channel or something).

It's right because YOU say so? I gave MY opinion. What you say is YOUR opinion. And no, I won't watch anything, in fact I don't normally watch primetime TV anymore, usually just Discover or the Science Channel.
 
I've liked the current season quite a lot. They haven't been as consistently good as they used to be over the last 6 or 7 years, but I still enjoy them.

Yeah, no, the same people saying the Simpsons suck now are the same people who say Dane Cook is funny. That right there should tell you something. While they do have a couple of really bad episodes here and there, I think they are just as entertaining as ever. All the people bashing them now ever say is just that the old ones were better, as if that's some irrefutable evidence. The odd thing is that they say this and yet seem to not actually watch the newer episodes. The main difference now is that they focus on making fun of real world issues more than their own world. I don't see it as a matter of one being better, its just different.
 
I didn't know that it was hip to say the simpsons suck. that is pretty silly. Even if it is considered hip to hate the Simpsons by some unknown Hipness Standard Board, that does not take away from the fact that the writing has deteriorated significantly. The show used to be a witty satirical cultural commentary... now it is a run-of-the-mill slap stick political and social preach-a-thon. All the wit and subtlety has gone.

BTW, who is Dane Cook? Never heard of him.

you obviously didn't understand the older ones if you think they were just making fun of "their world." That is actually what I was referring to in my previous post- the thing that you didn't understand...
 
the older episodes had some really great satire and snarky social commentary, the more recent episodes (last several years) rely on dumb slap-stick humor (people getting hit, falling over) or when there is social commentary it's too obvious and just isn't funny. The show lives or dies based on the quality of the writing. So they need to attract brilliant scriptwriters, which I suppose costs money. All the money must be going to the voice actors, because the quality of the scripts is now dismal. Or maybe when a show passes a certain age, it's impossible to maintain the quality no matter how clever the writers.
 
I own all the seasons up until 10 and that is as far as I will be going with that collection.

The new ones DO suck. Epic failed attempt at being more like family guy and the writers aren't as good.

what the hell? just dont watch it if you hate it? obviously it has its share of viewers that's why it's still on the air.

you missed the "rant on simpsons" bandwagon 5 years ago.

i agree that the older ones are better, but the new ones does not suck like everyone has been saying. getting it cancelled means you get another dumb reality show, geniuses.
 
i still like watching all the new episodes!! i hope it doesnt stop for a long long time!! no more 'moment of truth' garbage that is 99% preview of the 5 minutes of actual program.... every 5 seconds "coming up... blah blah ruins their marriage, etc"

I still watch episodes from seasons 3-~9 and they are still great. Listening to the commentaries it seems like the major suck comes in with changes to the producers/showrunners.

 
I thought the show picked up season 4ish and then it was solid for a good 4-5 years. I haven't watched for the last 3 b/c I just stopped laughing.

Seriously tho in season 1, I don't think I laughed once.
 
Even good shows should last a max of 10 years.

Frasier and MASH went for 11 and that was too long.
If you take out all the really bad episodes and redistribute the good ones, you would have 9 or 10 complete seasons of each.


The Simpsons is only on the air because sponsors keep dumping money into it, and Fox is a business first and foremost.
That show lost its cutting edge back in the 6th season and had no good episodes after the 8th season.
