The Simpsons...what do you think now?

In the T.V. producing world they use an expression called "jumping the shark". What it represents is when a show hits it peek and everything after that is downhill. The expression started from an episode of Happy Days when Fonzey jumped a shark when he was on water skis. It was considered by many to be one of the worst moments in T.V. history and the beginning of the shows end.
Now what I?m wondering is if you think The Simpson?s has jumped the shark or not? Because I do, I think it did around the Poochy episode, around 7 years ago. To me it lost its intellectual humor and perfect timing that made the show what it was. Replaced by very lame jabs at pop culture and people in the news. Don?t get me wrong, at one point it was an amazing show. Its writing and characters with like none the world had ever seen, and when i watch the old shows even now they still crack me up.
I?m just asking, what do you think now?

I think they hit the peak THIS SEASON . . . Sunday's wasn't all that great . . .

WAIT! ITS 6PM!! TIME FOR AN OLD EPISODE!!

I watched an episode yesterday that was aired before the Berlin wall came down. Just think about that for a second.

The first time the show really felt noticeably more "stupid" to me was when they went to New York to get their car back after Barney drove it and left it there. The first episode of season nine. Or in other words, six or seven years ago.

Edit: I would like to add, the second episode of that season was the infamous "Armin Tamzarian" episode. Probably the biggest indicator that the show had jumped the shark.

yes its funny to watch an old show,
like in one when the family thinks Marge is pregnant
bart says that the babies new name will be "Cool MO D simpson"
Cool MO D was a raper BEFORE mc hammer!!!
and that is not even really on old one.

Yeah, I used to be a pretty die hard Simpsons Fans. But it's definitely hit rock bottom.

Sunday's episode was pretty bad.

Although there was one funny line that I remember:
Bart: "Since I helped reunite you with your family, does that mean your going to stop beating me up at school?"
Nelson: "I only wish it were that easy Bart, I really do."

(Or something like that.)

the funny thing is that even though its crap now the ratings are still high for the show
i think its just because its the simpsons that people are watching it
the reason that the show is still on is because its still making money

Actually, it was a TV viewers site that came up with it rather than TV producers. I would say The Simpsons set a pertty low standard in the first place, so it is hard to tell whether or when it jumped the shark.

I like the Simpsons, but the older ones were better.. I like Family Guy more, but they don't seem to have a strong fan club. Once the show kicks off again I'm sure you'll see Family Guy collectibles all over the place.

IMO, Simpsons jumped the shark after the Maggie killed Mr. Burns episode.

they still have the occasional funny episode, but I don't even bother Tivo'ing the show anymore.
