No one should have to tell them to stop, they should write the shows to last a certain number of series then end.

It happens sometimes, but then look at the Office. 2 series and a couple of specials was more than enough.

6 Episodes per series.

Were now in Series 8 with 25 episodes or so per series with the US Office.

You do realize that our office was funny for awhile.

Its called a season btw.

I've blown through seasons 2-9 about 10 times. I can watch the episodes after but they don't hold my attention and the characters don't act as genuinely as they used to. I'm still a little surprised the writers settled on wacky antics over good stories.

You must have not watched much of the last 3 or so seasons, while I agree every episode isn't great, a lot of them are still entertaining and damn well funny.

You know, I decided to give it a chance after years of not watching it. I think I watched one of the early episodes this season. It was so unbelievably bad, I didn't even finish the episode. Maybe I'll give it another chance, but I don't have high expectations anymore.

as a former fan, the simpsons had already peaked by the time i saw the premiere of south park. the it was all over for me. the "life is hell" comics are still comedy gold, tho.

It costs me nothing for them to make new episodes, and I only waste 22 minutes if it's bad, or enjoy 22 minutes if it's good.
Who gives a shit if they keep making episodes of shows, just watch something else if you don't like it anymore.
Not sure what the big deal is here.
The last couple seasons have been better than the ones before that. I still enjoy season 3-6 the best, but some of the newer episodes are great. There are always stinkers with almost every show, so that's to be expected.

Most Simpsons crazies agree that seasons 1-8 are where the show peaked. 9 started to see a downturn, with 10 and on being relatively bad, with a few decent episodes per season since then.

Mike Scully becoming the showrunner around the year 2000 and turned Homer into 'jerkass' Homer started the shows demise. Glad they are still making shows and being profitable, but I haven't watched a new episode in quite awhile.

The Simpsons is still one of the better shows on TV, still watch every episode myself. 🙂

I remember watching it 20 years ago, craziness.

I still watch all the new episodes (along with family guy and american dad) since its the only thing worth watching on sunday nights.

As for if its good or not...meh it keeps me entertained for 22 minutes so cant complain

What I want are all the aired seasons on a single, or pair, of BD disks. Those DVD box sets start to eat up a lot of space on shelves.

This is one case where I must argue/agree that the U.S. is quite a different place when it comes to video entertainment, when compared to other developed worlds.
I WON'T argue whether it's for the best or worst, in our case, but that's simply where it's at today.

What is your favorite Simpson's quote? It most likely isn't from the last 5 years. That's a good indicator of where a series is at. If its still memorable, fine. Otherwise, put it down.

The Simpsons jumped the shark sometime in the mid-00's. It isn't funny anymore. It's cliched, and the writers really try too hard to squeeze laughs out of things.

It needs to end and soon. America have a habit of running shows into the ground until you can barely stand to watch them any more, this is a perfect example. There are many others. 2 - 4 series is enough for almost any TV program (If it's good enough)

they are called "seasons."

"series" refers to the actual program.

I don't think I've watched the Simpsons since ~98?

certainly not a full season, anyway.

The Simpsons died about the same time that Phil Hartman died, and their best years were when Conan O'brien was writing episodes.
