i was hoping that something would come along that was better than Simpsons before it ended. Well it hasn't happened so I hope Simpsons continues. Family Guy, Futurama, South Park are close but not quite.

Family Guy < Old Simpsons
Family Guy > New Simpsons

I don't even bother to watch it anymore. :(

Speaking of, isn't Family Guy being made again. Does anyone know when that starts? (Sorry, I don't watch much TV so if it's already started, I need to record it dangit! ;) )

family guy starts next year, and thank god they are finnaly killing the simpsons, hasnt been good in a long time.

That doesn't imply the production of new episodes... and if they were cancelling it, this close to the start of a new season they would already have most (if not all) of the episodes ready to go.

Personally, while I love the simpsons, I just don't watch it anymore. I'd rather them end before it becomes dried up and stinky. Not to mention that they've changed the time slot so many times that I don't even know when it is on anymore.

I can be satisfied with the re-production of family guy and a few hundred episodes of the simpsons on DVD.

Are you serious? It's been on at 7 (8 ET) for like, ever. I think that's one of the few shows that fox DOESN'T mess with. Unless you're talking about the extra episodes that they show at times.

no way they're getting rid of the simpsons any time soon. They just signed for another season a few months ago... plus they're making a TON of money on simpsons endorsments lately - they're everywhere.

It really is the funniest and more importantly cleverest show on TV. You just have to pay attention. There's a lot of subtle humor.

my favorite episode title "3 gays of the Condo" - when Homer moves in with 3 gay guys and experiences his first kiss by a man...

Another good one is where Mr. Burns 'adopts' all the greyhound puppies and plans to make clothes out of them had the song
"See my vest, See my vest, made from pure gorilla chest....
....
and my loafers former gophers,
it was that or skin my chauffuer"... great stuff there.

The 2nd best show on TV has got to be Arrested Development - hands down. Very funny and they do a great job of bringing all the story lines together at the end of the show - similar to Seinfeld.

Hmmm dont you think the cacellation of the longest running prime time cartoon, one of the longest running sitcoms ever, one of the most celebrated and followed shows of all time would warrant SOME legit news coverage if it was cancelled? Nothing on cnn.com, nothing on google news... this is BS to the extreme (ala Poochie). It AIN'T cancelled.

There's just no humor in that show. Its a stupid, humorless cartoon (to me), although I know of several people who loved it back in college (early to mid 90's)

you've seen 10 minutes, how would you know there's no humor?

How? Because everybody and their dog quotes the simpsons and talks about the show (at least they did when I was in college), and quite honestly, none of it was that funny. There were certain parts that were a bit funny, but I would not elevate it to the level of godlike as most people seem to do.

Futurama was pretty good though; preferred it in some ways to the Simpsons, especially Futurama's later episodes. It kept getting better and better - and then they cancelled it.
Lot of nice subtle things in the episodes too, like the bio-beds in the Taco-Bellvue hospital, which resembled the beds in the original Star Trek series. Or when Bender rigs a race by drugging the horses - he uses hyposprays, from Star Trek:TNG. A lot of jokes, puns, or sight gags in the show were like that - subtle, which probably whizzed right past a majority of Fox viewers, which is likely why the show was cancelled. Or the fact that it was on at 7pm on Sunday nights - which usually meant football was on instead.

Simpsons - I guess their time is up. I hadn't watched it much in the past few years - the writers just lost their touch I guess. About the only adventure the Simpson family never embarked upon was aging.

"Hi, I'm Troy McClure and you may remember me from such movies as "P is for Psycho" and " The President's Neck is Missing" "

Classic

How is that song "clever"? They rip off another song, and just rhyme gopher and chauffuer. There's no hidden meaning, there's no subtle context, it's just goofy filler that they do EVERY show. Basic Simpson plot - introduce some lame conflict at the start, sing a song, adopt a fat kid, sing another song, make fun of a certain group of people, and wrap it up in a completely ridiculous tie in.

I will agree on Arrested Development's merits though, I just got into it a couple months ago and am blown away that a show this good isn't being talked about more.

RedRooster...the way they tie the beginning of the episode into whatever the main plot is is generally genius.

Damnit, I'm not watching Fox anymore. They f-ed up the schedule. No more That 70s Show or King of the Hill. WTF! They replaced it with some stupid show about families living together, and Malcom in the Middle.

arrested development is hilarious

KOTH was never great to begin with either

i do hope they continue with the simpsons

No no it's not arrested development, I love that show. It's some other lame old show.

What day..? If you are talking about syndication, that doesn't count I'm talking about the ergular current season run. From everything I can remember, it's been on Thursdays, Wednesday, Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, I don't think it's ever been on Fridays and Saturdays though. I know it's been on at 7, 7:30, 8, 8:30 and I think 9...

I'm not talking about just the past couple of seasons, I'm talking about since the beginning. In like, the 4-6 season they had a new time slot almost every week.

Heheh...that reminds me about the episode of Three's Company where there was a misunderstanding, then Jack pretended he was gay. Loved that one ;)

you are basing all of this on the soundbyte of one small town news station....heh

that said, the simpsons should have been cancelled long ago.

However, they are still very profitable from what I understand. They are still good for 2 seasons and they have a feature in development. They are still winning emmy's with regularity, which producer's say "garuntee the show another 2 years" every time they win one.

even though it would have been nice to see them go gracefully. I doubt this will happen.

some producers have talked about never cancelling the show. How, "if it was handled right, it could go on forever, like saturday night live"

=/
