The silence is deafening! New PC is so quiet!

Just built a new PC and donated my old one to my mother. I am just amazed how quiet this new one is! I keep looking down to make sure the fans are on.

I went from a very airplane loud Duron 700 mhz to a 3000 AMD and the best part I like so far is the noise, go figure! It's an antec SLK2650 case with a DFI Lanpart nF3 board.

Cool stuff. A quiet PC is a very good thing, indeed.

Nice of you to give your old one to your Mom.

I'm thinking about giving an old PC to my Aunt; the problem is that she doesn't have a monitor or speakers. I could give her a KB/Mouse, but I have no speakers or monitor to give.

She currently has a WebTV which is crapping out on her.

Congrats on the new system. I'm trying to change my HTPC into a silent PC, but there are just so many upgrades I have to make before that. Oh well, eventually I will get to it.

MichaelD, you could probably pick up a 17" CRT and some cheap speakers for ~$100 retail (onsale RossMAN style 😉) or even cheaper at a garage sale. I've seen acceptable 17" CRTs for $20 and cheap speakers for $5.

Where there is a will, there is a way. 😀

Or you can buy a KDS 19" CRT for $97 after rebates

Fan controllers almost always do the trick. I'm getting some high-powered air cooling components for my new comp, but I'll use a Rheobus to control them to "quiet" noise levels when I'm sleeping or watching a movie on the computer or something. Congrats on the new system.

I just don't understand why this wasn't done ages ago! I mean I can hear outside ambient noise now, the fans used to drown that out. I might not O/C just to keep this peace I have found
