The shot that got away

Ok, so when I was going through my archives for last year which lead to the other thread, I of course ran into a bunch of "almost" great shots. Ones where some minor thing caused it to fail (most commonly focus off target for me.)

So I thought to it would be fun to share some of the "almost" pics we get.

A while back I put up a squirrel pic in the daily thread, this pic was the next in the sequence, and had the focus been on his head (or the lighting such that I could have stepped down the aperture enough) I would have really been happy with this one.

Oh well.

Aperture priority (f/8). So shutter speed was 1/20. I don't even know why I was using f/8. :(

1/1600 shutter speed should be fast enough to freeze anything.

f/6.3 should give me a smidge more DOF to hide any focus floating... but it wasn't enough.

The focus is on her back... about a foot from her eye.

Bummer about the slight focus imbalance..but still, it's a flying dog!!! That's makes it a million times better than most images on the interwebs.

Love the image! And the energy!

Yep, the picture is still awesome. And sized for the internet, you can't even tell that the focus isn't spot on.

Agreed, it's soft, but at smaller sizes it wouldn't be noticeable. I expect that would print nicely at 4x6.

Good to know I'm not the only one with a focus problem.

Maybe I should have titled the thread "Damn you autofocus!"
