WHAT A GOOD MOVIE!! Easily in my top 5 of all time and must have seen it about 15 times. I'm getting ready to lay down and watch it again right now on DVD (there is NOTHING on TV).

I can't believe it didn't win any Oscars even though it was nominated like 11 times or something like that :(

You got that right. One of my favorites. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman are great in it. So is that old guy with the bird, dunno who he is.

I agree, it should've won Best Picture over Forrest Gump (which is also an excellent movie). Morgan Freeman's narration at the end always gets me.

Also it was considered a flop at the box office if I remember right. I think there were some big movies out and it got left in the dust.

But it is a great movie non-the less.

I remember not watching it at first because I'd already read the Stephen King novella (also great), when I finally did see it I really enjoyed it. Easily the best adaptation of a King story, though Maximum Overdrive did have a killer soundtrack :) and a high cheesy-fun factor.

dont forget "stand by me," based on king's "the body", that was a great movie too.

Wow, I didn't know it was a Stephen King novel first. Damn...I should've paid more attention!

easily the best movie of the 90s. but did you notice how the movies that followed it made by the same guy (the green mile, the majestic) got progressively light-hearted? i kinda wish he'd go back the other way, a little more serious or something.

You thought "The Green Mile" was light-hearted??? OMG, that movie was so laboriously emotional--after it was over (all three hours of it) I was practically a basket-case. I haven't been able to watch it since.

Yah, It should have won. But I don't put too much trust in the Acadamy. They have messed up more than in this instance. Requiem for a Dream anyone?

Go vote on imdb.com if you haven't already. I would like to see Shawshank #1 movie over there someday.

Great movie. The book was just as good since the movie was almost word for word.
