Ghandi was a smart man, these are still so true today...

i've also seen this under the title "Things that will destroy you"
Wealth without work,
Pleasure without conscience,
Knowledge without character,
Commerce without morality,
Science without humanity,
Worship without sacrifice, and
Politics without principle.

- Mahatma Gandhi

My own "loose" interpretations, feel free to add your own

Wealth without work,
I'm all for helping people, but I refuse to help anyone who refuses to help themselves (oh, and getting millions beacuse a McDonalds coffee was too hot  )
Pleasure without conscience,
This could mean a lot of things, what pops in my head is sexual irresponsibility, or getting a laugh at the expense of others.
Knowledge without character,
being smart isnt an excuse to be an A-hole
Commerce without morality,
Business good, unethical business, bad
Science without humanity,
Stem cell research good, getting stem cells from dead babies, bad
Worship without sacrifice,
Feel free to worship your god, but at least have the balls make the sacrifices your god calls for
Politics without principle.
this ones kind of obvious.

You obviously know nothing of the facts behind that case.

Not surprising.

as a matter of fact I do, Ive consulted for McDonalds at the regional level on several issues, especially this one. It was obviously a blanket statement.

If that's true, then you're even more ignorant than was first thought.

But...enough digression. I'll bow out of this thread now and let it back to Ghandi. ;)

So, you would know why McDonald's knowingly kept their coffee at extremely high temperatures?

You would know why McDonald's had been previously sued for the same reason?

You would know that McDonald's had received at least 700 reports in the past re:hot coffee burns and even settled in amounts of as high as $500,000?

You know that the coffee was so hot it caused third-degree burns and required a week's hospital stay and skin graft operations?

My point is that your statement:
I'm all for helping people, but I refuse to help anyone who refuses to help themselves (oh, and getting millions beacuse a McDonalds coffee was too hot)
was an ignorant one. It's a statement that shows you know nothing of the case even though you purport that you do.

That woman only wanted her medical bills covered but McDonald's refused. They continued to refuse to settle throughout the case and ended up with a $2.9 million verdict.

Now, was this 81 year-old woman out to gain monetarily?

like i said, it was a blanket statement. I still dont think she should have gotten 2.9 Mil, what i THINK can not be PROVEN wrong, even though you have wasted hundreds of posts trying to do so since i came to this board.

Hell I want to vote for him.... Bush and Kerry can be on the next rocket to nowhere for all I care. And Mahatma can have Martin Luther King Jr. as his running mate, I'd definately vote that them. I think Mr. King would be the only preacher or devout christian I'd vote for though. I am a bloody anarachist though.

I agree with basic morality, but not so much that it should be enforced by those in power. I just thing not lying and cheating are basically good precepts. I intentionally left out stealing as it has it's gray area. I guess lying does too. But then I'm not one of those guys who beat you up for being square.....

I proved you made a knowingly false statement.

Hmm...does that equate to a lie?

Hmmm....

Good grief! Do I have to point it out, AGAIN?

I'm all for helping people, but I refuse to help anyone who refuses to help themselves (oh, and getting millions beacuse a McDonalds coffee was too hot)
You stated you know the details behind that case. Therefore, you know the 81 year-old woman was not out to make a buck; she was not out for monetary gain. However, you still lump that case in with your indictment of people who refuse to help themselves. How was she refusing to help herself?

ok, let me do this once, BARNEY STYLE

notice the word AND between the two statements? therefore they both reference the original comment, not eachother. The original comment about the monetary reward was based on the "Wealth Without Work" statement, NOT the "helping themselves" comment. so your question "how was she refusing to help herself?" does not apply.

again, please stop confusing facts an opinions
