I know for a fact that searching for "5.1 headphones" with title and summary enabled and for all of these words or exact words used to bring up a bunch of different threads about them vs regular headphones.

Now it brings up nothing in current or archived messages. (for me at least, in IE and FF)

5.1 headphone brings up nothing either, and there's even a current thread at the top of peripherals right now with 5.1 headphone in the title.

What is going on here? I've been totally frustrated with the search function for months now. Is there anything you can do about this? Is this an issue on the Anantech side of things or the fusetalk side of things?

Yeah, I only had 360 posts as of Feb 18th 2005, so I was more of a lurker for about 3.5 years, but I remember the search function actually working back then.

I think I first noticed the search function being worthless around december 2004, but I could be wrong.

Maybe I just didn't notice that the search function was always horrible, but I think it's gotten much worse over the time I've been a member.

the search for fusetalk is the lamest and crappiest. everyone hopes it will reach that of vbulletin in the next version of it.

It's not for me, I wanted to show previous anandtech threads about the subject for a guy so he could see a variety of opinions.

I would also like to be able to find specific things that I know have happened in the past here at anandtech, not just general info I can get off google.

I searched for his name on Anandtech. He appaerntly only posted on one thread... and in that thread (The one I linked to) he only posted 2 posts.
It's possible that he posted the other post in a thread that got deleted. Remember that "deleted" posts only get moved to a forum the general population doesn't have access to. Those posts are still in the database, you and I just don't have access to them.

First off the limitations on search are being looked at. Secondly the search is completely tied to MS Full text, which does not search numerical values. FuseTalk has almost NOTHING to do with what MS fulltext finds except handing it the words you type in, just an FYI. The only thing we influence is the ordering of results, which some like and some don't, again there is an option for that.

Instead of this sucks or that sucks, try and be constructive and helpful by giving examples of a thread that isn't found due to a flaw in the search... Maybe by being a bit more constructive and mature a resolution can be found?

Maybe...

Is that directed at me?

A lot of people have been crapping all over the forum software lately and generally bitching without offering any constructive critisizm.

I just want some real feedback, like this thread existed and i couldnt find it.. here is the thread. Then I can go off and debug, see what I can do to improve it.

well, when you search for some keywords, it says you must pass variables to it. for example, if i try to find a certain member's post beyond 2002, and i enter the name, it says that message, and when you put it to the past 90 days, it doens't help. also when you search it should bring up every post since 1999 ever made on AT.

I thought that's what I did in the OP.

Sorry about the worthless comment.

I get the 'variables' error in the following situation: I search for something, view the results and then hit the back button to search for something else. It erases whatever subforums that I had selected before. If I don't reselct them I get the error message.

Does the same thing for me too. Running Opera 8.02

Oh! That could explain a lot.
