The channel, and that show in particular have gotten sh1ttier.

The ONLY thing worth watching on that channel is the show "Icons" and that bit they do every morning basically playing video game intros and clips back to back with no dumb @ss host.

Morgan was hot, but she's a sell out ho like the rest.

the firewall is probably on, and the default setup blocks ping, so that doesn't tell you crap

somebody at least has to nmap it first, but this is exercise is a bit silly, script kiddies can't touch it
 
If it was DDoS'd would it still return a host name?

My guess is they just have a very efficient firewall, which they'd be stupid not to have if proposing a challenge like this.

no necessarily, if the firewall is on and all ports are blocked? i don't know , the best thing to do would be to setup a SP2 box locally and nmap it to compare to

Done. Stock SP2 isn't as secure as Microsoft likes to tell you. Either they're running an impossible contest or the kiddies are being retarded.
