The Scarlet Letter? Anyone read it?

I read it, didn't enjoy it too much. Just read today that the Cliffs Notes for the Scarlet Letter sell better than the actual book.

I have seen the movie. I would rather be subjected to 12 hours of A Clockwork Orange-style viewing of it than read any of the book again.

Well.....


She is found with a baby no one knows who the father is. The society they live in belives this is EVIL BAD because she probally commited adultry. So they giver her an A for adultry to wear in public.

Her husband she commited adultry on came and saw her under public humiliation and decided to stay under cover and not give away his connection with her. He also made her promise to tell no one about him being her husband.

Anyhow she lived on and eventually gave birth to the child. The child was kinda evilish a bit bratty and she couldnt seem to punish it because she felt she was a sinner too. Anywho her real husband is constantly trying to find who she commited adultry with since she isnt going to tell him.

There thats half of the book id keep going but its a pain to remember atleast you can skip half

I thought that it was a pretty good book, well written and pretty good social commentary. Has to be remembered that it was written for the time period, and not for our current time. Still interesting things to read in it.

Then again, I'm a literature buff.
