Lifer
so i've been applying for jobs, and i get an email from azusa pacific university about a job doing network and computer support. so they go we think you are a good candidate, but before we can really consider you further, you have to be christian since we are a christian school and you have to sign a form saying you really are!!!

i quote
"APU is a Christian university and as such requires that all employees, faculty and staff, make an affirmation of Christian faith by signing the university?s Statement of Faith, a copy of which is attached to this message."

so no i am not christian, i'm catholic (batised and non practicing and pretty much non believeing). but it doesnt matter , this is just out right ridiculous. anyways, here is the "statement of faith" form. for your amusement.

Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative word of God.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, and in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return to power and glory.

We believe in the fall and consequent total moral depravity of humanity, resulting in our exceeding sinfulness and lost estate, and necessitating our regeneration by the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the present and continuing ministry of sanctification by the Holy Spirit by whose infilling the believing Christian is cleansed and empowered for a life of holiness and service.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those who are saved to the resurrection of life and those who are lost to the resurrection of damnation.

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. The following are fundamentals held to be essential and the University expects faculty and staff not only to believe in them, but to practice them in daily living:

- Caring, effective love both of God and man

- A Christ-like unity and acceptance between believers

- A lifestyle dedicated to God's will in society

- A growing, victorious state of mind because of the indwelling Christ

- A daily affirmation of Christ as Lord

- A willingness to serve the Lord, even if it means sacrifice

- A desire to be more sensitive to the personal work of the Holy Spirit

- A working faith in God's promises for all needs and daily life situations

- A witness for Christ without hypocrisy

- A firm, committed desire to be God's person

i am not sure if i should be laughing, or not. maybe one of you more religious ones can contact Asuza pacific university.

Ummm... Catholics ARE Christians...

Well if you're Catholic, you're Christian in the broad sense I suppose. If you must settle with that job, I guess you could still sign up, though you'd probably want to keep looking now 🙂

Hey at least you got a letter saying they were interested.

A few months ago I got a letter stating that after reviewing my resume they had decided I was unqualified for the opening.\

The best part was I did not apply for any job with them.

They pulled my resume off monster and then decided I wasn't qualified.

I thought this was going to be about you wrongly getting an email from the IT dept at your workplace, telling you to lay off the visits to beast-luv.com

Do you really want to work for these people?

Azusa Pacific is a private Christian college. As long as they take no government money they can make the rules as they wish regarding religion.

Make no mistake, they are dead serious in their beliefs. If you aren't a Christian you won't be happy there.

WTF does this mean?

"- A growing, victorious state of mind because of the indwelling Christ "

Anyway... their e-mail is so annoying, can you even IMAGINE what it would be like actually working there. Especially since EVERYONE ELSE working there either holds the same views or is a liar too...hehehe

I suggest writing them an email back saying you like their school and their job opening but you cannot work for them until they sign a statement saying they will not be rude, pushy, exclusive, and discriminatory on a regualr basis. Also that they will not pry into your personal business or try to bribe/threaten you to accept their beliefs when they are unable to convince you by their powers of persuasion.

Post your email here once you write it...

i just got a job today actually $14 an hour database backup , restore , support, blah, yeah it sucks, its a night job, but i'd rather work unsupervised at night, than for an entire school of brainwashed zombies.

i meant scary as in , there are actually people who are like this.

this is just as bad as racism. not to mention i did not get this job, they said i had to sign it just to be considered further.

You know I just came to a similar conclusion, that for the most part Organized relgion is just another method of control, people telling us how we can live and what is and isn't acceptable.
