I can't remember if/when this was posted before, but here

"Chevrolet builds and sells V8-powered, 300-plus-horsepower, rear-wheel-drive sedans in the Middle East. It also sells what is essentially a V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive El Camino in Australia. That's right, Saudi Arabians and Australians are able to enjoy such machinery, while Americans are stuck driving V6-powered, front-wheel-drive pedestrian sedans."

What gives? Your guess is as good as ours.

It's too bad cause I think a rwd v8 sporty sedan would be pretty cool. Some of them get pretty decent gas mileage too when compared to high-strung 4's or 6's. I remember comparing the M3 and the Corvette and the Corvette got better gas mileage... heh.

Mercury in the near future is coming out with a 300+ HP marauder. I seem to recall a price of $35k but don't take that to the bank. It's just a huge sedan with a whack of rear wheel HP!

Ahh... How many people in the middle east actually own cars? I assume that by the time you take export costs and tarriffs, only the rich could afford an american car.

Yeah that Lumina SS is sweet.
RWD.. 325HP... it's like a Camaro but it's a sedan with decent handling! Man I'd take that over an Accord, Jetta, whatever! over here any day! As it is if I wanted a decent car I'd have to get an accord or something cause american cars here suck for the most part. I'm starting to understand why Ornery is bitter.

it's all in the gearing..not necessarily better engine technology or anything.

CAFE. Not a guess but rather the reason.

Ford does it too - ever seen a Ford Puma or Falcon around? (not the old falcons 😛) Not to mention the Escort Coswort

damn Ford, they're supposed to be the most American of companies, and can't even supply us with anything other than a Mustang or a Focus SVT....

I miss the days when Ford had a ridiculously-detuned-from-300HP V6 stuffed into a family sedan 😉
