Five million times better than 13 ghosts but when it comes to horror movies i am more of an Excorcist / Poltergeist / Damien kinda guy.

Maybe i'm just to old to be scared by the current flicks, i have, after all, been married.

I loved the Ring, one of my more favorite horror movie. I originally saw the Japanese version, Ringu (all 3 actually, which includes the preclude), but i prefer the Hollywood version surprisingly (the woman in Ringu was much too subserviant).

Ya know, I didn't think 13 Ghosts was all that bad. I wouldn't buy it on DVD but I'd watch it again. I only recently saw that one too about two months ago.

Did anyone like House on Haunted Hill ? All the ghouls freaked me out... the ones in the basement.

The ring was better than it could have been, but that's about it. It did have nice atmosphere, but the story was so inane that no amount of atmosphere could save the film.

I liked signs a lot more, though I agree the ending was terrible.

When you have seen my Ex wife in the morning there is nothing that is scary anymore.

I thought 13 ghosts was a bit too much, i couldn't decide if it was supposed to be funny or scary and since i found it neither i didn't like it.

But then again, really good movies are far and apart so i guess it depends what you compare it to.

This is one of a few movies that scared me during and long after I saw it! Another was Alien back when I was a kid.

I think I'm spooked by the concept of an unstoppable menace.

I thought Signs was horrible. I couldn't get past the part of the aliens trying to jiggle the door knob. With all their advance technology, the can't get the friggin door open. Plus with the whole water ending, no suspense at all.

I wholeheartedly agree. You can launch an invasion of Earth but you can't get into a farmhouse cellar?

Sorry to be argumentative, but is it really possible to find the last 1/3 or so of the ring plausible but not find parts of signs to be plausible?

I found nothing in The Ring plausible either if that makes you feel better. 😀

The Ring scared the sh!t out of me. Well...probably it was because I had some friends over for a Halloween party when we watched it and we were all quite intoxicated. Everytime the movie made some sudden movement I'd spill some of my drink on the person sitting next to me. LOL

I liked The Ring more than Ringu (Japanese counterpart), and I liked The Ring much more than a lot of the 'horror' movies that are out nowadays. I think the proper genre for this is 'thriller', due to the fact that most horor movies are meant to be funny and slasheriffic. Slasher != scary!

Anyways, The Ring and The Others were two pretty darned good movies.

I haven't seen the American version yet. However, I've seen two versions of Ringu. At least I believe they were different. The first time I saw it (a few years back), it was on VHS w/o subtitles. The second was DVD version (last year), which seemed to be missing a few scenes. One of the scenes being when they're in the video reviewing room and looking at old interview footage and there's a long haired girl in the background. I enjoyed the VHS version more, maybe it was just the group of people I was with.

The Ring was pretty scary, but not the scariest movie I've seen. I don't know what I would classify as the scariest, but two come to mind easily: Session 9, and The Changeling. Scaaaarrrry stuff.

I don't think I've seen either one of those. I have heard of The Changeling but not Session 9. What is the premise of Session 9?

Session 9 is about a guy who runs an asbestos removal business. He gets a contract to clean up an abandoned psych ward. You know, the type they used to have - crazy treatments, abuses, weird aparatii for "healing" people... The location itself is just scary, and the movie does a good job of getting that across. One of his coworkers finds some old recordings in the basement of a girl being treated. Each tape is labeled Session 1, Session 2, Session 3, etc. As the worker listens to the recordings in succession, they get weirder and weirder, and things start happening in the building...

It's very well done, and the location is definitely VERY creepy. The DVD extras talk a little bit about how the crew was freaked just to be filming there, and some things happened on the set. I wouldn't want to visit that place!

The original Japanese version is much better than the hollywood re-make version.
Oh and the original novel is much better than the movie.
