Huh? I just watched this movie and the only scary part was when the horse fell into the water. I felt bad for him, but I have seen horses swim before. Stupid ass movie.

You are not supposed to watch it with your parents with the lights on.

Wtf? It's the most disturbing movie ever. Have you actually thought about it at all or does your mind not move fast enough while you're watching a movie? Think about living for 7 days in a well.

I just watched the movie too, and I really didn't find it scary either. It could possibly be just because there was 4 guys here, but I thought it was kinda pathetic.

All it made me think about was that I will die one day. I thought about that when I was 5.

I hate to do this but I agree. I wish I couldbe like other people and suspend belief for a movie, but the logical part of my brain just won't ever shut up.

It wasn't supposed to be anything. It's just a movie--it's what you make out of it. Same thing with a book. A book just contains lots of words, it's how you interpret and how you recreate those words that makes it special in its own way.

SPOILER

The scene where the girl crawled out of the tv scared the living shyt out of me. If you could put yourself in that position....man, i'd be pissing myself to death

To those who saw the original Japanese version, Ringu, was the American version dumbed-down to gain the PG-13 rating? I never saw the original but something tells me that this is what happened.

I thought it was scary in the sense that there were plenty of indelible creepy images that remain in your head and creep you out by popping back into your mind when you walk into a dark room alone.

But, I though the entire concept was rather unoriginal and that the movie was over-hyped. The plot was very much akin to the 1999 movie with Kevin Bacon called, Stir of Echoes. That movie was just as creepy and had one scene that made the whole family jump off the couch!

In fact, if it wasn't for that ending scene I'd say The Ring was more of a supernatural mystery then a horror movie. The final scene certainly saved this movie.

I was honestly expecting alot more scariness to the movie, but that might've been because I invited a whole bunch of people to watch it with me so I didn't have to spend the night alone just in case. In the end, it was pretty disturbing, but I wouldn't call it a league above The Exorcist. Imagine if your bed starts to shake =P

O,o?
so many people try so hard to be macho why not just let urself go and enjoy the movie.

The girls face in beginning,
when she first rented that video and watched herself at nite
when the phone rang
the scene down at the well
when the girl popped out of the tv

those were all tense moments.

Now if you want to bag on a overhyped movie that truely wasn't scary, signs would be such a movie.
The first encouter in the crop field was good. But as soon as they show the silly looking aliens it turned into a cheap
b movie.

i really think that this movie is only scary to those that actually think and use their brains.. my 14 year old cousin wasn't scared.. but then again, he's a freggin moron.. point is he wasn't scared, cause nothing popped out of the closet, or appeared from thin air... this was totally psychological.. the entire group i went with thought this was the scariest movie ever.. i mean that may sound boastful, but i really can't think of one that's scarier.. "IT"?? maybe.. cause i am still afraid of clowns... "the exorcist"?? gimmie a break.. i dunno what's scarier than this movie

The ring is not scary per se, but more creepy than anything. It seems people either really like it and find it creepy, or feel like you that it was not creepy at all and sucked. I personally found it to be very creepy, and I plan on buying the DVD. If you want to see how other people felt about it, check out these other threads about the movie...

the ring: creepy (spoilers?)

I really, really liked The Ring. The movie was able to let me completely imagine what the characters were going through.

Millennium, just out of curiosity, what movies would you consider scary?

That's sad... You are missing out on A LOT of good times. Losing your ability to lose yourself to imagination cannot be a healthy thing.

I couldn't agree more. Creepy is a perfect description. And actually, it's more powerful than scary.
