The rich will pay more taxes in 2013 no matter what

The rich will pay more in taxes next year regardless of the outcome of the fiscal cliff.

That's because two new taxes enacted to fund President Obama's health care reform are kicking in come January.

The new levies will help foot the bill for the program to expand health care coverage for the uninsured, which involves government subsidies for lower- and middle-income Americans.

The vast majority of taxpayers will escape unscathed, however. Fewer than 2% will be subject to the new taxes, said Roberton Williams, a senior fellow at the Tax Policy Center.

that healthcare reform is a complete waste. if these taxes hit me or anyone I know, I would rather have them building bridges to no where or buying 10k dollar toilets... which the government uses to flush pretty much all tax "revenue" they collect down.

OP is a clueless

The poor now have an unalienable right to the income of the wealthy. That's the new form of the American dream for those in the lower echelons of society. Our system is a twisted one.

At this point, socialism would be more productive than the lie that is American capitalism.

Horrible grammar but a valid point. It's basically a mirror of the Libs and Repubs, they both only exist to serve big business and the removal of your rights.

No, what's twisted is me busting my ass and paying a higher effective tax rate than some rich plutocrat do-nothing-asshole that lives on capital gains/dividends.

We punish hard work and tax passive income at a lower rate.

difference between you and me is as follows, besides you being clueless:

you want less Americans to pay more taxes....

I want EVERY American to pay less taxes

So how will they determine this Income Level? Normally, they just count W-2 Wage Earnings and not capital Gains. A lot of people have mostly Capital Gains Earnings and make millions.

I dont make too much money myself so this would not affect me.

I have been thinking we need a progressive Capital Gains Tax with diff levels of taxation. I dont think that making people who earn small amounts as capital gains should be taxed the same as millionaires.

I'm not getting this bounty you speak of from the rich.

PM me with the details that I am apparently missing.

Thanks much

That's because the bounty they got from taxing the rich in efforts to better the poor goes straight into bigger Government.

You think your Government is out to help the poor and middleclass? Still want all the rich to leave the country??

MUHWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Why should everyone pay less taxes? We are already at a 50 year low, yet we keep the most insanely bloated military in the world (50% of the entire world's budget), are still involved in 2 endless occupations of foreign countries, etc. Why should people get tax cuts while we start occupations?

Why should the rich pay less than everyone else? Everyone's taxes should be raised to pay for everything. Don't like it? Next time you should protest when the Republicans want to start another war!

The new form of the american dream is the gap between the wealthiest 1% and the rest of the country has grown in leaps and bounds over the last 20 years, while the rich continue to manipulate the government to lower their taxes and to give more corporate welfare(1/3 of the fortune 500 pay no corporate taxes).

Funny how you think the poor have gained anything in 20 years when they have lost the most while the rich have gained the most.

So how will they determine this Income Level?

For the Medicare tax, it is an expansion of the payroll tax so only W-2 wages will really count.

For the investment tax it is MAGI (Modified Adjusted Gross Income), so all income, including passive investment income, counts.

At least, that's the way it appears to be as of right now.

But they still have to read and interpret it.:p

The poor are doing better than they ever have (though not well enough). The middle class are bearing the brunt of looting from both ends.

Those that earn their wealth through hard work deserve to not have to foot the big bill anymore so than a middle class tax payer.

Now, what I do take issue with are the politicians not doing their jobs, or worse, using tax dollars for their own ends. These loose ties should be fixed before even thinking about any sort of tax hike. Next, turning to businesses that abuse our laws to the customer's expense.

Damned few college professors make millions of dollars per year, and they're not squealing like pigs in a pen about paying marginally higher taxes, anyway.

The people who finance the Repub party are, however, particularly the stealth financiers of the Teahadist delusion.

So you're saying that your elected congressmen, being vested after 6 years of "service", pisses you off?

Good.

Too bad many Americans don't know tidbit.

Google the corporate/union contributions and where they go.
