Doom 3 - flashlight in one hand, gun in the other, horror brought to a new and confusing level of realism

Boxing game - each controller equals a fist, a workout that may actually be fun and realistic

Non-sarcastic question:

If each hand is a weapon/fist/flashlight, how do you move the body around cos that only seems to cover aiming? I think there's a D-pad but that doesn't sound like it'd be much fun, trying to use it while moving both hands around.

I see a LOT of potential application for this controller in games like the Resident Evil and Metroid series, as well as Sports games. In fact, I see a lot of potential for it in A LOT of games. I greatly look forward to seeing where Nintendo goes with it. I think we could see a lot of cool new concepts.

For a long time after the DS came out, I wasn't sure exactly how they would put the touch screen to any real use. Then I fiddled around with Kirby: Canvas Curse and it was pretty cool. Now I'm waiting for the holiday season when we buy my daughter a DS so I can play around with it some more 😛
I envision the same sort of thing with this controller for a lot of people.

You could use the d-pad on the "remote" to control movement with your thumb. Humans generally only walk in a two-dimensional plane anyway. Jumping would be a button press or even a flick of the wrist.

When you're watching the video, they're all spazzing around and flinging their arms and looking all around the room. It makes it look impressive until you realize there's no TV in front of them. This controller + small TV = pain in the ass. And forget multiplayer.

But I'm glad they're doing something different, trying to bring more motor accuracy into the game without those stupid analog sticks. This is a step in a good direction.

Read an article that said a lot of 3rd parties were very interested in the big variety of games that can be made with this type of controller. It didn't say the names of the 3rd party companies, but hopefully a much larger game library compared to the Gamecube.

amdforever2 has no fvcking clue. Nintendo has put cash in the bank consistently for the past decade. They have huge cash reserves, and come the new generation of consoles, they won't be loosing $100-$150 per console like Sony and Microsoft.

Do you think they made that money off Gamecube and N64?

They didn't. They made it off gameboy, and PSP is taking half of Nintendo's share in the handhold market, looking at DS and PSP.

They made a lot of it off their portables, but their console business was still profitable. They didn't lose money like the other two.

All I have seen is the video, so the article might right some of my worries.

First of all, this thing just screams out for VR goggles.

Also, I hope they make the cord for the second part longer. It looks really uncomfortable to have to keep your hands in the one in front of the other position for long. Perhaps someone should create a rifle stock to mount the parts in, make it feel more realistic when playing New Super Mario Cart Duck Hunt Party or what ever they will come out with to try to justify this device.
Personally I really hope it works, because it seems to be a cool idea, and we need some innovation in the market, but I think what will end up happening is that most people will end up using a normal controller that will either come with the system or be a basically mandatory buy. I just can't see this thing having the response times necessary to play most games, it would seem to require to much time to do a movement and then reset for the next one.

Nintendo fanboy purchases + people interested in the console purchases does not = bankrupt, rofl.

lol, even if nintendo were to sell no more consoles int he united states, their japan business would hold them up easily. Nintendo owns Japan!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate to say it but not everything revolves around north america!

It looks to me this could be fun. Regardless of that, if the retro games are a decent price and fairly accurate, I would buy this system just for the access to the old school games. I would love to have a giant library of all my favorite nintendo games in one spot. Some games are fun regardless of the system they are made for. How many lame games have you played for the most recent consols? Fun is fun regardless of the system.

After reading this, I'm convinced Nintendo is trying to fail.

Or at the very least, trying to make sure I never touch another one of their consoles again. My (however slight) intrigue and interest in the revolution has officially been washed away. At least I won't have to worry about buying all 3 systems now.

Been doing a bit of thinking on this - to be honest, I think it could be MUCH better done using straight-up motion capture gloves - and produce a more varied command set.

Nintendo is always out ther with their crasy new ideas. gotta give them credit for being unique, even if it does cause them to go bankrupt. I actually like the look of it...with the add-on as well, it looks like it wouldn't be that bad of a 'controller' to try out.

Oh, and HOW IN THE HELL are they going to do in-store demo units!?!? They won't be able to get spoiled 5 year olds to scream to their parents "I WANT THIS NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW" - which is a rather massive market for game consoles.

They made a lot of it off their portables, but their console business was still profitable. They didn't lose money like the other two.

This is only true with Microsoft.

Sony makes much more profit overall on consoles than Nintendo does. Not every year, but overall. Sony's strategy is to take a hit on hardware at first but to expand the userbase so much that license fees pay for it and hundreds of millions more.

You may be referring to the entire Sony corp as of late. Are you forgetting about MGM, Cell, Blu-ray?

And Nintendo will be the only ones in the black for the next year (maybe two). Losses for the XBOX360 and PS3 will top their predecessors.

Japan also rewards innovation. The Revolution will have a good start out of the gates, and hopefully the software will keep the steam going (first party triple-A titles will be a given, hopefully 3rd party will be there too).

Too soon to predict. I just know so far, the XBOX360 launch titles are looking lackluster.

The problem that most people are having is apparently that they cant figure out a way to play the same old games with this new controller. Those people are missing the point entirely. This isnt about playing the same old games anymore. Who cares if it can or cant handle ports? Anyone who really cares will have either the xbox 360, ps2 or both. Part of me will miss playing a new "standard" style mario or zelda, but the possibilities that this controller unleashes are just ridiculous. I'm sure the ps3 and xbox360(not as sure) will probably have some amazing games. But its honestly the same old crap. I played with a few games on the xbox 360 at e3, and I was overwhelmed by this feeling of "meh, this is nothing new". It looked like console games with pc graphics. Nothing to get REALLY excited for.

Ive been playing games my whole life, and I guess you could say I'm "hardcore". But to be perfectly honest, new games simply arent as fun. All of the new graphics are great and all, but games are becoming too complex to be just plain simply fun. The learning curve just for the controls on some games are ridiculous. And its just been the same kind of games over and over! Now for the first time, there are three almost entirely separate gaming experiences. There are standard console games, there are PC games, and now there is revolution. All are fun in the own way. But I can already tell that something is going to be special about the revolution, simply because its never been done before. As far as I'm concerned, there are only two companies that I will gladly hand my money over to without question, because they have practically never failed me before. Two companies that have such a reputation for quality that they are in a league of their own. One of them is blizzard. The other, is nintendo.
