This isn't about the election this year. It goes a lot further than that.

Seems like such a simple concept one would think it would be easily grasped.
As Ron Paul said in this fantastic speech last week at a Montana rally A small percentage of informed and dedicated people are far more effective at bringing change than the many millions of voters who build their very generalized perceptions from the evening news.
This is not about Ron Paul winning the election.
This is about changing the course of this nation and people are catching on to these ideas. The more suffering this nation undergoes the more people will be open to these ideas and the original intent of the founding fathers.

If his revolution is about changing the course of the country, then please show me any reasonable metric that indicates he's succeeding.

I chose the election results simply because Ron Paul is running for President. If I'm wrong, then please point me towards something that will show how influential his message has been.

Have some patience. This hasn't even been going on for a full year yet.

You should be happy. Even if you don't agree 100% with what he's saying or Libertarian ideals in general, this country needs some changes. And those changes are not going to come about from the current crop of criminals and corporate whores running the show.

Fair enough.

I can agree on that.

How many fans does Howard Stern have while being an overpaid past-his-prime windbag with crazy ideas and a detachment from reality? Oh ya, that's right, "millions"...

Coincidence? I think not!

And what does Howard Stern have to do with my statement?

He's another example of someone who has convinced "millions" in this country that he has something worth listening to; while, in reality, he's utterly and completely full of shit. And, as with Ron Paul, the "millions" who still listen to him are too dumb, or too far gone, to realize that.

see how that works?

It?s a shame Paul isn?t in the general election. McCain?s campaign and poll numbers need to be gut like a fish to prove he cannot abandon conservative principals. We need someone to vote for against him to send a clear message.

If he wins the general election, it'll only send a message that more Republicans must follow in the path of the neocons. We cannot allow that to continue.

Totally agree.

Paul can't run as a 3rd party candidate now. Too late now to start this route. But, the Libertarian candidate could choose Paul as his VP. Now, that surely doesn't mean he'll win, but it does help take votes away from the Republicans, and it may help get the LP closer to playing in the same ballpark as the other two parties.

If all goes well, and it will be tough, the Republicans will change their ways at least somewhat significantly, or, they will temporarily team up with the Democrats and try to bash the ideals and the party into the ground.

Yep, Ron Paul is full of shit, as opposed to the fine, upstanding politicians you support.

Anyways, back on topic...

I'm thinking about going. Never been to Washington before, and I figure this would be an awesome reason to go. I wonder what the turnout will be. Any other AnandTech members definitely going?

This one would be amazing. I still haven't made it to any major events and this one is just too far from home(3000miles).
My guess is this will be the biggest event to date which is quite a statement considering McCain is all but guaranteed the nomination.
I'll be watching live online though.🙂

This thread has been hilarious.

What is so dangerous or bad about Ron Pauls? His main message is less federal government and more individual personal freedom. We need to put a stop to an ever expanding and already over bloated federal government. Governments are rarely the most efficient means of any production and it should be highly debated as to why the government should take on new ventures; it's painfully obvious governments lack the incentives to be frugal with our money.
All 3 front runners are for the continued expansion of the bureaucracy without taking the real economical aspect into account. Why the hate for Paul?

Because he and his followers take every idea and every concept to extremes... they're lunatics!

Yes, smaller government would be great, and yes, responsible spending would be an incredible change of pace -- BUT!... but, that doesn't mean that we should eliminate the Federal Reserve entirely, switch to a gold standard, bring home every US service member from every corner of the globe, or shut down 6-10 government agencies completely.

THAT is their supposedly "enlightened" message!? bah.. whatever... they're fucking loony-tunes, plain and simple...

 Sounds pretty good to me. Although I'd much prefer to keep government completely out of managing our money.
