Obama pens a $500,000 book deal days before taking office

Which begs the question... should we cap his pay?

And who is exactly running the country? He has time to go on ESPN and do playoff brackets, have multiple st. patty's day parties at the white house, go on jay leno, make book deals.

My guess is Pelosi. Obama just signed the stimulus so that was not much work.

Please, please republicans get your shit together in the next 3 years.

What's wrong with an ESPN bracket? Is the president supposed to work like a slave 24/7 and have no life outside of the oval office?

As for the "campaigning" issue, he's trying to sell his ideas to the people, just like Bush tried to with the whole privatizing SS.
Well being President really isn't a 9-5 job.

Being a president also doesn't mean you're not allowed to have any free time.

Wait, let me get this right, the problem you have with our president is that he created a ESPN bracket and got a book deal?

Desperate? Get a life...

You feel compelled to ask that, why? My statement is of fact and transcends our figure head. Congress writes the law, and the administration's secretaries manage their duties. The nation would run fine if Obama only stopped by the office one day a week, and frankly given communication this day of age there's no real reason to stop by at all.

So, let me get this right. You have not found any real thing wrong. You most likely would bitch about anyone in office and you are repeating campaign rhetoric that didn't work against Obama, for what purpose?
Obama has so far faced two significant PR challenges to his policy, and went back on the campaign trail to address them...both related to questions surrounding policy decisions respective to the current economic situation.

Obama is perhaps intelligent to understand he needs to preserve and extent the political capital granted by the honeymoon period of his Administration. However, public opinion relative to persona ultimately merges with policy...Obama is scoring high marks on his ability to engage the American people...no one can take that away from him.

My take is that Obama's reliance on accessibility and personality is a substitution for his Administration's inability to deliver on the promise of political transparency.

I'll give you that...

It's looking less and less like change, and more like the same ol' same ol' . Still though, its just over 2 months now. Lets give it a few years to see how he does.

It seems like a serious conflict of interest for a President to be taking deals like this. What if McDonalds wanted to give him a deal to eat his lunch there? Or Nike wanted to give him a deal to wear a swoosh on his suit?

It doesn't hurt to stay in touch with the people and be grounded in reality. We have already seen what happens when the president sinks too far into his White House bubble.

I appreciate having a President that I can see out and about engaging in many of the same sorts of activities that my husband and son enjoy, why shouldn't he enjoy ESPN millions of other Americans do.As for his appearing on Leno, this man swore to us that there would be transparency, part of meeting that objective is in being visible to the public...ALL of the citizens, not just the ones who will only listen to formal, official speeches.

This president gives me the feeling that he's a real person, that he's got an actual clue as to what the lives of average people are all about. He also imparts the impression that he is
actually a happy man, who has a good sense of humor and enjoys his life. I feel reassured by much of what I see and hear.

Oh and the multiple St Patty's parties ?
