That's a LOT of speculation. It's too bad we'll probably never find out the real story.

Agree. This is where the ubiquitous conspiracists start emerging. It was a screw up. Serious, but a screw up.

Lesson learned: All these emerging off site or off device data storage businesses have an inherent risk Will any or all still be in business 5 years from now?

I prefer to store and control my own data.

Yes, it was MS fault for not having it backed up. It was T-Mobile's fault for not seeing such a risk.

Oh please. Like I'm going to believe a word written in an article that slams Microsoft from AppleInsider? That's like getting your conservative news from HuffingtonPost or liberal news from FoxNews.

I dunno, the way Pink got all that publicity and it was publicly trash-binned would really piss of someone that had been marginalized by M$.

I have to admit I don't follow AI that much, but caught a link from Gizmodo or Engadget (I forget which one)

I follow engadgetmobile so it could have been gizmodo. Anyway, I'm not saying it isn't possible, just that I won't really believe it until I see it from a less biased source.

Regardless of whether any of the speculation in the article is true, it's a fact that the Sidekick data network is down, and has been down for weeks and that users likely have lost all of their data. You have to wonder what on earth went wrong over at Microsoft/Danger and what they were thinking regarding backups and "plan B" options. Even if the whole Appleinsider article is incorrect, I bet the real story is still an interesting tale of really bad decisions.

It's amazing to me that there isn't a method to back up a Sidekick.

My G1 and gmail are connected to manage my contacts, but if one or the other fails, I still have something. And I export them to sync with Outlook quarterly or so...
