well the only team that clearly belongs is Miami..let's look at the rest of the field

Nebraska - not even good enough to play in their own conference championship.

Oregon - PAC 10 conference champion

Colorado - conference champion, but has been beaten twice

Maryland - ACC conference champion with one loss

Florida - not even good enough to play in their own conference championship

Illinois - Big 10 conference champion with one loss

LSU - SEC conference champion with three losses
*******************************************************
Oregon lost once to Stanford the #11 team in the nation and a team that waxed Washington when the huskies were in the top 5.

Illinois lost once to #15 Michigan in Ann Arbor(always a tough place to play)

Maryland lost once to a team that was a perennial top5 team in Seminole country where noone had won there since 1992.

So really there is only 3 teams that deserve to play Miami in the Rose Bowl. There were 3 conference champions with only one loss..Oregon, Maryland and Illinois.

So why aren't one of these teams playing Miami?
It's called lack of respect.
Oregon was the only one of these teams that was given any respect the first week when they were ranked #8(but only after they had beaten the number 5 team and moved up a whopping one spot!), Illinois was ranked #46, and Maryland did not receive a single vote to even be in the top 25.

So instead the BCS is giving an at large bid a chance to play for the championship rather than a team who deserves to go.

PS, I still think the team with the best chance to beat Miami is Colorado

The only other team I'd prefer to see would be Oregon. Nebraska will fill Pasadena with 20k+ presold tickets and make lots of money for everyone. BCS is bullsh1t but I'm actually pretty happy to see this matchup. Especially since Nebraska is getting 10 points....GO HUSKERS!

i can't stand miami but i really hope they destroy nebraska, just to enforce my belief that they don't belong there. i liked the "you're welcome nebraska" signs the LSU fans had up at the end of that game. anyway, i'm doing my small part by not watching any bowl games this year (not that they'll notice, but hey, i'm more than happy watching the NFL anyway). oh yeah i'm a georgia fan (go dawgs!) so please don't bother starting with "oh it's just colorado bias" or whatever. ;)

I think when they're putting it together, they try to synthesize who would make it through in a playoff series.

Say they seeded it the way the polls finished:

1. Miami
2. Oregon
3. Nebraska
4. Colorado

In the first round, Miami would beat Colorado and Nebraska would beat Oregon.

Then you have Miami and Nebraska left over...the teams alive now

I like how teams always say things like, "We aren't thinking about the National Title. We just want to win our division and win the conference title." Most all teams say this.

I guess Nebraska could have just said, "Who the hell cares about a conference championship...you can have that. We just want to play for the National Title."

It's sad that Oregon is #2 in both polls and didn't make the title game. I'm not an Oregon fan by any stretch of the imagination, but college football is about the polls, both of which have Oregon second.

And really, when it comes down to it, anyone can beat anyone when there is a month layoff in between. Miami is great, but a month is a long time to wait. And I also think that there are plenty of teams that could be Miami...look at the VT game they ended with. That just goes to prove they aren't the end all in college football right now.

But, while a playoff would be good, there would be just as many debates on who gets in the playoffs as there are now with the title game. The playoffs would give you a clear champion out of the teams picked, but there would always be two or three teams crying, especially if one of the lower seeds were to come out champs.

Nitemare, I like your post..

I think Oregon, then Colorado, are most deserving to play Miami, but I think Colorado is the only team with a chance to beat them...I think Nebraska has a better chance of beating them than Oregon would....but..

The whole thing is a mess!

I agree, the BCS is the biggest load of crap ever. How is it that a team, who didn't even play in its conference championship game, who lost by a big margin in a game that basically should have decided who should go, is going to the championship game...

it makes no sense.

Just get a freakin bracket already like the NCAA championship tourney....is it that hard?

It's easy to bash the BCS because there are so many good teams. Everyone thinks they "deserve" a chance to play in the championship, that's the way it will always be. The BCS accounts for the whole season, that's why Colorado isn't going. Oregon has played a relatively weak schedule and still has a loss. It is questionable that Nebraska goes, but they do have a damn good team with a Heisman "quarterback." Ask the coaches if they want a playoff system. I know Barnett doesn't.

(I'm a CU fan and I'm happy to say that we're going to crush Oregon and that whiny baby Harrington and share the championship wit Nebraska.)

The country wont be happy until we have playoffs.... after this year.

But it really doesnt matter this year... Miami will dominate the competition it plays.

However, the BCS will be revised greatly after this season and will at least be bearable untill 2006 when it is out of contract.

What's your definition of waxed??

UW 42 STAN 28

I do agree that Oregon should be in the Rose Bowl though, but when Nebraska beats Miami, and Oregon beats Colorado, the Ducks will
have a share of the NC. That hopefully will get that PAC-10 some respect.

PS - Typing "Oregon" and "NC" in the same sentence really hurt this Husky Fan - See you guys in Eugene next season!!
