- in the 1990's, New govt regulations limiting the amount of commercials during kids shows, thus limiting profit.

- news + sports shows were cheaper to produce than cartoons.
plus they can have more commercials because it's not a kids show.
win/win for the networks

- ratings for sat morning cartoons went down due to cable TV and channels that do cartoons 24/7.

the 5min youtube video explains a few other reasons

RIP Smurfs, Thundercats, Digimon :(

Amazon Video has like ALL of the kids shows. More than half of US households have Amazon Prime. Tablets are $50.

Done deal.

My kids are so spoiled by netflix binging on the weekends that they bitch and moan when they "have" to watch the Disney channel. Whenever there is a commercial break they lose their shit that they can't fast forward through it and they just have to suck it up and wait.

So many **BACK IN MY DAY** thoughts and comments go through my head on that....

I miss Saturday morning cartoon shows because the constantly rerunning block of stuff cartoon network pushes is solely for early age 5 year olds. Shows like Pirates of Dark Water/The Real Ghostbusters/Sonic The Hedgehog had depth to them you can't get anywhere today outside of Japan. The new Thundercats reboot was so good it surpassed the original in my opinion but was cancelled after a single season with an unfinished story line. I'm grateful we're getting Young Justice and Saurai Jack back after they both ended on a cliffhanger years ago but they too bit the big one at one point. Cartoons of this nature are just a dying breed in the States.

One day...one day I will get the movie rights to a live action version of Pirates of Dark Water. And it will be epic.

Absolutely disgusting that the fed fuckers mess everything up. I lived for Saturday morning cartoons. USA's Carton express was awesome too. I never wanted to leave the house and go to school! And that reminds me. They played cartoons on the network channels right before school too. Woody Woodpecker was my fav and Dennis The Menace. Then when you got home there was more Dennis The Menace, Loony Tunes Batman, Duck Tales, Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, Tailspin, Animaniacs, Pinky & The Brain and the list goes on.

What is Cartoon Network playing now? All day it's BS Teen Titans Go. It's bullshit! They cut Regular Show. And on [adult swim] I haven't seen new episodes of Rick & Morty. WTF!

Who the hell wants to hold a phone or tablet to watch cartoons? I want to lay on the couch and watch the TV. I guess I could stream Netflex through the TV. But I never payed to see cartoons before.

I have fond memories of Saturday and week morning cartoons as a kid. Summer break was the best too as I'd get to see the cartoons I normally didn't get to see. I remember a whole string of cartoons I'd watch in summer, I don't recall the order but it was The Smoggies, Inspector Gadget, and a few others. Ahh nostalgia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdCfCSfkLqQ

Good for them. There should be zero advertising and product placement for kids shows, just like in some European countries. They are way too impressionable at that age.

I'm surprised the show doesn't get more love. It's very good. How can you watch the theme song and not fall in love?

The first Pirates of the Caribbean movie shows that a high-quality, modern (produced) pirate movie can be made, and with all of the excellent CGI hitting TV shows lately, it could be a really excellent show, especially if it was produced in a mini-series style like the UK's extended-length Sherlock stories. Maybe I should crowdfund this one :D

TaleSpin still has the best theme song

Rescue Rangers was pretty decent too, but at least I never founded a cult based on one of its characters

Always wanted to be a GhostBuster. Had all the shit too. From the proton pack to the trap. I pretended the furnace closet was where I inserted my ghost trap to get rid of ghosts like the real containment chamber.

There's still a few good ones. Phineas and Ferb is great. Clone wars and Rebels is pretty sweet. My kids also love Odd Squad and the new Voltron which is kind of cool.
