The real meaning of MPH

Yup. That was exactly my experience when I tutored math. Math is mindlessly through algorithms today. When I taught fractions, the kids learned to plug it in to the equation is/of=x/100. That is, for a problem asking, 5 is what percent of 20, you take the number before the word is, and put it over the number after the word of, and set it to x/100.

Then I ask them something simple like what is 50% of 10... and they're plugging it into the equation. D:

It isn't that she doesn't know what MPH stands for...he spells it out...he says 80 miles per hour. This is 4th grade math at most. We all feel superior to her for this. That, and the fact that she thinks the wheels of a car turn 400 times per mile. She should be able to get a bit closer than that...

What I find amazing is that she actually had the 'though process' to considering calculating the revolutions per second the wheels made, their size, etc.

It just goes to show what missing a 'critical' piece of information can do to your attempts to solve a problem. MPH didn't mean anything to her, so she went off on a tangent trying to solve a simple equation.

A brain fart doesn't last for 4+ minutes, at least not with something like that. However, it's the husband recording the whole thing and laughing while she doesn't seem to care (until the very end) that really adds on to the likelihood of this video being staged.
