The Race

Fantastic!

I like the subtle lighting, the foreground elements drawing you into the photo, and you captured quite a powerful moment.

Good stuff. It wasn't that dark in real life, was it?

Almost. I stopped down a bit so I wouldn't blow out the highlights on the swimmers' legs and in the pool, but without that window lighting (from behind me and to my left) I wouldn't have been able to get a shutter speed high enough to freeze them. I think I was shooting 1/1000 @ f/3.5 ISO1600. That pool has super high ceilings and the lighting is about 50 years old.

great shot, was that like a remote flash or something?

All the highlights in the foreground are natural window light. 🙂

Here's another from the same swim meet. This was my first time ever shooting swimming; I may have to go again and set up remote flashes next time.

Thanks for the comments!

Nicely done, oh man, I have so much to learn and play with my D40x.

Little by little, I just need to practice more.
