Why? You ask "WHY?"

Maybe because there is work to be done? Maybe because the winged ones went on "vacation" instead of doing their job for a couple months. Maybe because the Republicans are playing political hardball like the Dems have been?

I believe a new plan was approved just a year or two ago. But Tom Delay didn't like it...

So a panel of judges didn't approve a new plan a couple years ago or something like that? It may not be implemented yet. Let me know if I am just making this up.

hmmm... yes, a district court found new boundaries in 2001. the map is still gerrymandered in the Democrats favor, in evidence that the Republicans won 53% to 44%, but its the Democrats that have 53% of the seats to the US congress. there is nothing illegal about redistricting now, though, and there may be precedent for it. i suspect the court case in colorado, which is going through something similar, might get bumped up to the supreme court to make a decision binding on the whole US.

Maybe someone needs to learn more about the 'Facts'

1) Redistricting by the Legislature was last done in 1990 after the census

2) Redistricting by the Courts was enacted in 2001 - After the Legislature chose not to
but the courts intervened and awarded districts to Republicans that they had not won in elections.

3) Districts won in the 2002 election by Republicans total 15 - that's the voters decision,
anything more by redistricting is a flat out power play to give Democtatic seats to Republicans
in order for DeLay to tilt the House balance more to his liking, it's not legal.

Time will tell for Gov Rick Perry. I actually liked Lt. Gov Dewhurst, (R) during the regular session for his stance against redistricting, but he showed his true colors after Delay and Perry had a chat with him to be with the team.

I know many Republicans very much against redistricting. I did my part and sent modest contributions and praise to the every "Texas 11"

as the saying goes Texas weather and politics are the same, both extremely unpredictable. I doubt Perry or Dewhurst will be able to weather the storm after the next election.

Perry won on the evil of two lessors game, neither one was at all appealing, the Devil you know Vs. the Devel you don't know.
Where's Ross Perot when you need him ? Is he still out throwing the cat against the wall to see if it'll stick ?
