The PS4 was released in November

I like the PS4.

I've always been good at picking IMO. I had the original Nintendo. Skipped the SNES and went for the Playstation and N64. I had the PS2 after that, it was great. The first time multiplayer came to consoles in a big way (Socom) on the PS2. Better game save features over the N64 etc. I switched to the XBOX 360 since it had superior multiplayer. Never had an original Xbox. I thought it was fugly. Halo is the only game I think I missed out on.

I skipped the dream cast, game cube, original xbox (for PC gaming at the time, starcraft, counter-strike, Morrowind days Mmm). I skipped the PS3 and the Wii as well although the Wii is pretty neat it just is more casual oriented than I am.

This new generation stuff... Xbox one I feel like it is dropping the ball in a big way. PS4 should have improved multiplayer over PS3. PS3 was having problems with its CPU, manufacturing, software, security, basically the whole damn system and that should have been a red flag. No one stays the #1 console forever so get over it. I think MS knows it and thats why they waited 8 years to progress to next gen.

Kind of reminds me how PS2 was so wildly successful they kept making games for it even after the PS3 was released. PS3 was the expensive behemoth just like the Xbox one + kinect is the expensive behemoth today.

The kinect wasn't as mainstream as they were hoping so double down on what didn't work! How can such a large company make such a big mistake. I'm not paying an extra $100 for that shit I already had one and I never used it. I'm not blinded by brand loyalty... I just think MS is screwing up and so I'm staying well clear before I'm out $1,000 on the console games and accessories for a system that is going to fail. Might as well go buy a dreamcast 😉.

I was going to buy one of the new consoles, but I decided to spend way more money than either of them cost on a high end graphics card instead. With all the controller support on steam now a powerful HTPC works essentially like an uber powerful console anyway. Now if only valve would hurry up with that steam controller...

Come on...Somebody else pull the trigger. Get'em while they're hot because after Metal Gear and Infamous release they'll probably be even harder to find.

Both the new consoles are still shit without the killer apps. I have a Xbone due to it's exclusives and MS's track record, which is good IMO. TBH though, by the end of last gen PS3 was a much smoother and cheaper experience.

If I wasn't excited about Titanfall and a fan of Halo I would get the PS4 fo' sho'. It's also cheaper.

I recently built a steambox for my living room TV and can confirm this. So many of the new games are coming out with controller support, BUT be prepared to be disappointed regularly. Still, the graphics on my 7790 is nice. That's the rough equivalent to what's in the new consoles, but it seems like this box squeezes out more performance.

and even that is on PC so a non issue for many anandtech readers.

True, and as we know, spending a fraction of the $500 XB1 cost on a GPU and maybe one or two components will take a PC beyond XB1 levels for that title.

The only two reasons for Titanfall on XB1 are those that want to play with XB1 friends (I don't get it, I make new friends for whatever game I'm playing anyway, quality is #1 in my book), or those that want to play with a controller (which is the worst thing in the world for an FPS imho).

I showed Titanfall at 2560x1600 to someone who was excited about XB1 TF beta, he just put his XB1 return to Amazon in last night. He has an i5 Dell that I am going to help him convert to a gaming box. He hated Ryse, got bored of Forza, bout the only thing he liked was NBA, and he says he'll just play the 360 version instead.

Amazon is selling PS4 for $400 with no sale tax (in my case) and free shipping. I am still waiting until it is cheaper and/or comes with a free game or two.

<<--- did not have PS1/2/3 or Xbox or 360. Dreamcast FTW ya'll. 😀
