Basically a lot more on the relationship between Leon & Mathilda, stuff that was originally cut so as to not offend the US market.

Definitely worth getting the international version, the US release is nowhere near as good.

Gary Oldman really had his full-on psycho mojo working for this film. It?s not surprising to learn that his private life used to be somewhat, let?s say, colourful :)

Care to explain? :D

When I saw the ending on TV again recently, I was taken by how intense and believable his psycho act was.
It seems as if some actors work through their demons by choosing parts that allow them to exorcise these aspects of themselves.
He grew up with an alcoholic father, was an alcoholic himself, witnessed a friend being shot, etc
I was simply making a connection between what was going on in his life and his choice of roles. If you?re off screen lifestyle is hanging out in John Belushi mode, then playing the lead in light and fluffy romantic comedies, doesn?t come so naturally.
The only film that he has directed ?Nil by Mouth?, covers some of this territory I believe. I haven?t seen it but I hear it?s quite harrowing.

What?s with Natalie Portman and paedo roles? She played another paedo role in Beautiful Girls. Excellent film IMHO; it was made 2 years after Leon. It?s not that she so much as kissed the older guy, but there was a theme going on there.
Has she made any interesting films since then? And no, Star Wars doesn?t count.

One of the big things was the fact that Leon and Mathilda go on some hits together, as he really does
try to teach her the business.

Yeah, I was just reading up on this on imdb, and it definitely sounds like a film for me. Not sure if it?s been released in Europe yet and it seems to only have had a limited cinema release in the US, so it?s possibly a candidate for straight to video.

I have the director's cut. It rox. Stallone should take a hint and have about that much dialogue in his films.

Definatly a great flick, Oldman at his best. He's a pretty over the top actor, but in this movie it works well with his character.

Wasn't this Portmans debut movie? What a way to start, not a bad job for a 13 year

Ring trick anyone?
