I don't have any installed on my computer, though when I need to scan something specific, I'll use Trend Micro's online scanner.

Housecall is good stuff.

edit: honestly, web-based port and protocol attacks have become far more dangerous than file-based-execution viruses these days

seriously... if youre good at using your computer, you can avoid viruses 99% of the time. even some anti-virus software cant protect you from everything.

Norton , which I bought for the folks [and regret doing so in retrospect] is awful. It seems to compeltely bog down the system.:(

I was using AVG, but with all the reports of it's lackluster preformance, I figured, what's the point?

MY stuff is backed up and off line anyways.

I've never been hit with a virus, a sweep w/ spybot S&D and that pretty well does it. Never really had problems w viruses.

I get that free from my Uni, and I had to uninstall it. It was using a crazy amount of cpu time. I went back to AVG.

I thought I was doing well with Spybot and AVG free until I noticed my AVG e-mail scanner starting up when I hadn't even started checking my e-mail. Turns out I had the Mitgleider B trojan. Neither had found it. Download and scan your system with some of the other Spyware softwares out there. You'll be surprised what you find.
