The problem with security on nearly every device and program

The default settings are often way too strict hence causing problems with ordinary activities. (i.e. chrome safe browsing, Windows UAC, and anything else from Microsoft) So people disable or bypass them because they are a pain in the ass thus defeating the entire purpose for which they were implemented.

I just want to go back to 90s internet and combine it with 00s software all while somehow keeping 2016 hardware capabilty and broadband speeds . Is that too much to ask?

I haven't had any virus issues since 2006, stay away from porn and downloading questionable stuff and you shouldn't have a problem.

Same with sites that require ultra-secure passwords. It just leads to people who can't remember them and are more likely to recycle passwords or write them down.

Well, technically speaking, from a security standpoint, this is how security is implemented -- you deny all, then allow ONLY those approved items through.

Ever set up a firewall? You don't allow everything through then block certain things. You do precisely the opposite.

Yeah, that reminds me of the interview John Oliver did was Snowdon. While he was told all the things necessary for a good password, Oliver just made the simple response that most people will do "yeah, but I'm just not going to do it."

This. Does anybody consider that people will need to type these passwords on a mobile device?

I'm pretty sure most people just come up with a 6 digit string of characters they can remember and then just end with a mm/yy suffix at then end. This is how I've handled my passwords at work for many years.

Remember?

Hell, I just password reset when browsers forget. :sneaky:

On a broader scale though, until privacy (and thus security) are important enough to have legal consequences when failure happens, industry will continue to give zero shats.

Look at banking/healthcare industries. Yes, there are breaches, but far and away fewer than the number that occur with most every other category of business.
