Ok about a couple months ago I had a problem with the computer i built it had shut down and would not restart at all. I had no idea what the problem was so i replaced the powersupply and mobo, and it worked like a charm. Now it has happened again. This time I was on the computer when it shutdown. This is exactly what happened.
I was working on a word document, Suddenly my wireless mouse goes dead and a little box pops up saying that a usb device could not be detected. So I reach around the back of my computer and unplug it then plug it back in. The little box thing goes away. The mouse still doesn't work though so i go to try and reconnect the mouse sudden the computer total shuts down. It was not a windows shutdown it was like the power was taken away suddenly. So i check the plugs in the back and nothing. I try to hit the power button but nothing.
Here are my system specs:
Amd 64 3000
chaintech vnf-250 mobo
Lite on dvd-ron
lite on cd-rw
nec dvd-rw
1 gig of corsair value select 2 sticks
nvidia 6800gt
Thermaltake 480w silent purepower supply
4 case fans including cpu fan
2 hard drives 80gig and 160 gig.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Sounds like your mobo may have shorted out at the USB port. Try disconnecting that port from the mobo (assuming it's not integrated), and then turn on.

Sounds like it grounded... but if it actually booted once, it cant be that (unless you knocked a wire into something it didnt get along with). Take everything out of the case thats essential (mobo/cpu/graphics card/ram/psu), set it up on something like a phone book, reset CMOS, and then try to get it to POST (try to get it to turn on, any kind of video!). This gets rid of the grounding out/not enough power angle. If it does turn on, then you had a problem with something grounding in your case... or your PSU couldnt support all that crap (you DONT need three CD/DVD drives... comon now). When you put it back in make SURE your case mounts are organized and placed in your motherboard correctly. Make sure to tie off wires so nothings touching things they shouldnt be. Not sure if I'm missing anything... I'm sure I'll get yelled at if I am. GL :p

Ugh ok sleep check. I didnt even see the USB thing... try what Dethfrumbelo is saying, if that doesnt work, ide barebone it and run it outside of your case.

Thanks for your help it is an integrated usb right on the mobo. So i can't do what Dethfrumbelo suggested I will try the grounded thing because I think it might be that. One more thing to add to the possibilites is that I turned off my computer last night and I almost very turn off my computer for the whole night. In the morning though i booted it back up no problem.

Well its still not working I took out everything out of the case. The mobo is on an cardboard box and the psu is hooked up to the mobo. I have the ram and vid card in and thats it. I have no idea what is wrong with it. When i hit the power button on the case which is still connected to the mobo by running the wires out of the case, nothing happens. The led on the front of the case doesn't turn on none of the fans or psu fans. It just sits.

reset the cmos again, it may have something to do with the button so try to do it without the case header (use the screw driver to put the contact in the power on pins), , try another PSU, another video card, BTW does you MOBO have any signal led or voice message?.

unfortunately the screwdriver thing did not work either. I really think that this chaintech mobo is a bad one because this is the second time it has done this. Fortunately i can rma if i want to and it looks like i will have too.

I had a similiar problem with an abit NF7-S v2. After many hours of fiddling the mobo was the only part that didn't pass the test. I would say RMA if you can.

also take the CMOS battery out, try to power up couple times and the get it back in, have you contact chaintech tech support?, have you try another PSU?

I tried the cmos battery thing but nothing was different. I would expect to at least see the fans of the psu and cpu fan to come on but they don't. The power led on the front of the case doesn't come on. Basically nothing is getting power. I tried a different psu and nothing changed. What i don't understand is how this could happen to two new mobo's of the same type. I think there is a simplier solution that i am missing. I am gonna call chaintech and find out what i can do.

If this is the case and it is integrated, it'd be tough to deal with. If you switch mobos again, I would look into getting a different mouse, because that could be the issue. I've heard of mice killing mobos.

I have had the mouse for like 2 years now alot longer then i have had this rig. Its the mx700 from logitech the recharging wireless mouse. I absolutely love it. I really don't think its the problem more likely this motherboard from chaintech is the problem. I am thinking about getting a different motherboard entirely can anyone suggest a motherboard for my rig that would be good.

Sounds like its the mobo to me. When you get the new one, just make sure to put it in correctly and tie everything off so theres absolutely no chance its shorting anywhere. Use a different mouse for the first month, too (good thinking on Malek's part). If everything goes well, put in the mx700, and see how it goes.
