I lived in Orange and Anaheim from 2002 to 2005, definately a culture shock (65 to 70% hispanic). They even have theri own grocery stores that have buses that pick them up since I guess alot of them don't have cars. I will admit I was a bit intimidated in the beginning, but it was my problem and I found out that the hispanics work their butts off. Try getting your car completely hand dried off and almost mini-detailed by some snot nose caucasion teenager elsewhere for less than $25 bucks.

In that situation there's no way to tell who is legal or illegal. The AZ law would be an obscenity there.

Therein lies the problem to a few of our issues. Its the exact same thing as outsourcing jobs, we all bitch about it but at the end of the day we love us some cheap shit.

It was rather amusing after Katrina, people who I knew to be absolutely against illegal immigration, deport them all types, didn't hesitate to hire people of "questionable immigration status" to repair their property for 30-50% cheaper than local companies. They are all against it until it benefits them and then its ok (at least until the work is completed and they no longer directly benefit from the cheap labor). Same thing with outsourcing, we reward companies that outsource our jobs by buying their products because they are cheaper (due to paying someone 1/10th or less than the American worker used to make) but at the same time bitch about companies moving jobs overseas.

The problem with amnesty is the "benefits" go away. The labor isn't cheap anymore once they are legal citizens and they have to follow the same rules and regulations as the rest of us. The problem with our current situation is eventually we must reach wage parity and that means lowering OUR standard of living while raising theirs. We meet somewhere in the middle but no way in hell is that an "acceptable" outcome to any American, regardless of what they "believe".

The pro-illegal crowd is definitely not made up. You just have to look around this forum. They might not be a huge percentage of the population, but they're definitely out there.

Try living in LA or other border cities that have been taken over. The Mexicans think this is their land; it’s not the same as the Irish pub or Italian deli with a flag somewhere. To them it’s about being Mexican first, which is why you occasionally see it fly above the US flag in front of public buildings around here. How many Illegal Italians and Irish are waving the flag saying this is their land part of Ireland or Italy?

Are you serious? Many LEGAL Americans of European descent think that America belongs to one of several European countries. They send Americans to DIE for European interests. Their loyalty is to Europe instead of America.

Are the Mexican immigrants calling for Americans to go to Mexico and fight the drug lords? Are they calling for American children to die for Mexico? How many Americans died for France, UK, etc. in the last 100 years compared to Mexico?

Love the "etc." How many Americans have died for Germany or Italy? Not many besides a few traitors. And that's despite the fact there are more people of German and Italian ancestry in the US than people of English or French ancestry. Kind of screws with your dumb theory huh?

Maybe that's because America wasn't fighting for Europeans but was fighting for democracy (e.g., France and UK). Even if you want to be more cynical about it, you have to draw the conclusion that Mexico has never really been economically or politically important enough to fight world wars over. (But go ahead and continue with your anti-European conspiracy theories. Obviously it's what you live for.)

You are either with them or agin them. But you definitely can not question xenophobia.

WTF does xenophobia got to do with it? You come illegally into Mexico, and they will rightfully kick your ass. But in the pussy-whipped USA being anti-illegal immigration is xenophobia and racism.

No it's not. Only illegal lovers think that and they are a very small minority of The People.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Their being in the country is not the problem. The problem is that illegal immigrants are criminals.

Actually no, technically they are not. Undocumented immigration is illegal under federal law, but it is not a crime. The penalty is civil in nature.

I could have been clearer. Crossing the border is, being here without papers is not. For example, overstaying a visa, which is how a lot of them get in, is not a crime. Even those who cross illegally and are caught many years later are never prosecuted because no one can prove the exact circumstances of their entry. In essence, it's only if you get caught in the act of crossing that it's a crime. Those who are caught being here without papers are subject only to civil penalties.

Not really. The country had bigotry against Germans and Italians in its recent history back then.

Oh my god. You're joking, right? Fighting for democracy? France and UK fought AGAINST democracy all over the world, even after WW2. If anything, they were enemies of democracy, especially in that era.

Again, how many Americans died for Germany or Italy? They didn't. Either you have to limit your irrational hatred to the UK and France or you just have to accept that your dumb and racist theory that white Americans like to fight for Europe doesn't make sense. In any case, I'll make sure to ignore your further attempts at hijacking yet another thread in the name of off-topic Euro-bashing.

Suppose a family from Ireland is legally living in the US with a work visa and they do not have citizenship. If they have a baby in the US, which country does this kid belong to? Ireland doesn't want him since he wasn't born in Ireland, and the US wouldn't want him because his parents are Irish. The kid would have no real citizenship and would be treated as an immigrant in either country.

Being Irish I can't let this mistake go uncorrected

Entitlement to Citizenship Through Descent

If you were born outside of Ireland, and one or both of your parents were born in Ireland, then you are automatically an Irish citizen from birth, and you do not need to apply for Foreign Births Registration. You can apply directly to the Irish Passport Office in London for an Irish passport. Their telephone number is 0207 225 7700, and their email address is passportlondon@dfa.ie

Mexico does a great job protecting its Southern border. You can get shot dead for hopping it, no questions asked. Oh and you must have your papers with you if you are not a Mexican. The police can stop you if you look different [ie- you are white, or black or asian...non mexican looking] and you better have your papers! Wheres the charges of racism against mexico btw for racial profiling ?

Of course when it comes to American border security, we have Mexico's little troll president fly up here and talk down to our congress for not doing more of a horrible job on guarding our border. To him, the US/Mexico border should just be open, so that they can continue sending they're surplus population into this country.

The opposite side has been called "Anti-immigrant" since the start of this whole debate (among other things... racists, bigots, xenophobes, etc.).

I'd say that most arguments made these days are based on this in fact... "American was built on immigrants, you are anti-immigrant", or "You're just anti-Mexican"... it might start off as an argument about illegal immigration, but since it's so hard to find a case *for* illegal immigration, it always boils down to name calling and characterization of a position.

Exactly there really is no good argument for illegal immigration, none what so ever. I don't understand how people can think it's ok.

Exactly there really is no good argument to be anti-immigration, none what so ever. I don't understand how people can think it's ok to hate innocent undocumented migrants just seeking a better life. Including the drug smugglers, im sure they are just misunderstood people.
*/starts playing tear jerking music and reads aloud a story about a migrant boy blah blah*.

Fixed it for you to make it liberal-compliant.
