hmm.. third year in a row the PRO drops a notch in ati's lineup? can't help but think if this is true all those who paid $450+ for an x800pro will be feeling a bit burned by ati..

ATI WILL HAVE three cards based on its R420 marchitecture, matching Nvidia. It was simply a matter of time for ATI to start talking about its new card clocked in-between X800PRO and X800 XT PRO.
Ironically, the ATI X800XT will be clocked at 500/500 MHz just as we suggested it would at the beginning of this year. X800 XT PE, Platinum edition is, as we said before, a 525MHz card with 560MHz memory and will ship at the end of June or early July and the X800 PRO is already in the market and it's clocked at 475MHz core and 900MHz memory.

This card comes as a logical step for ATI in this overheated market but it still remains a secret when it will be able to ship these cards to go against Nvidia's.

Apart from Japanese Nvidia 6800 cards, none are available at all but this could change soon as Nvidia plans to have some cards at June for buyers.

All this is happening just before the dawn of the PCI-Express revolution that starts on Monday at Computex.

Any clue as to when the last AGP video card will be released? Is this generation the final generation of AGP? And do you think there will be an upgraded 6800 Ultra named something else that is the final AGP?

I'd guess we'll see an AGP slot below the PCI-express slot (or somewhere's) for quite sometime to come. Seems like last year was the end of the ISA slot, that took awhile to kill off.

They'll probably have a fourth and Fifth cards as well, the X800(8 pipeline 128bit 128MB DDR) and I've heard of X800pro with 128MB DDR as well. Who knows what the partners will bring.

Early adoptors that are disappointed should maybe wait until the product lines and pricing settles before jumping in anyway...the X800pro isn't going to be slower because new cards are introduced, and the market will price these cards down the road.

hmm, isn't that the X800SE which ever1's forgotten about ;)

I haven't forgotten;) I hope they go with a 256bit memory bus however, on paper it looks slower than 9800pro.

It's a re-shuffle of the deck. nV had to do it when ATI released the x800's to keep up, (GT, U Extereme) now ATI is plugging the gaps they had. As for those that bought early they should have known they were overpaying. ATI isn't burning them, they burned themselves by being impatient. There really is no need for these new cards at the moment, all current games play just fine with a 9800Pro or a 5900U.

i don't think you understood what he meant. burnt as in the people who jumped in early and over paid. NOT ATI.

and i bet hl2, STALKER and doom3 will run just fine on 9800p/5900U as well. even the 9800xt is almost pointless...unless you're not going to upgrade for a year or so and you're counting on the 256meg of ram increasing your texture quality in some future games...i think hl2 is supposed to have a post-release update with bigger textures that take advantage of 256 meg cards.

i just found a 128 meg 9800xt...first one i've seen...

http://www.imagestore.us/product.asp?pf_id=HY%2D9800XT128

$250...

still not worth it since you can softmod a 9800p to xt speeds (especially that MSI board...i bet it oc's well with that big ol' heatsink that goes over the GPU and the RAM), but it's interesting and disturbing that there are so many damn variations in ATI's 3rd party cards...variety is good but this is getting ridiculous :D

THat isn't even an XT. It's core clock is 350? Which is like lower than a 9800 Pro.

Anyways, for the people who bought the X800PRo and was successful with modding it to a X800XT, its not a bad deal at all.

I'm interested in how the pricing goes though. THye may have to sell the X800 Pro for 299, X800XT for 399 and PE for 499.

B3D there's talk the 'plain' XT is an OE only part for manufacturer's such as dell.. tho even if that's the case, i'm sure it will still make it into retail channels as an OEM product.

Would paying $325 for a Radeon Branded x800 pro be too much? I currently have a ti200 so I need to make a jump somewhere. Wanting to go with either a 9800 pro or x800 pro... $125 difference in price.

The system that I will be doing up is...

A64 3000
1 gig 3200
2XWD raptor HD's

yeah with a 3ghz processor you might as well go for the x800...if you had a 2ghz, then the x800 probably wouldn't be worth the extra $$ unless you were planning to upgrade cpu soon...but with 3ghz...no reason not to go for it...especially at $325
