I've been tracking some of the nicer CABYE Opty's on Ebay and they are selling for over $300 now...where will this stop.

I've never been able to understand ebay, people bid on empty boxes and dirt. They get so wraped up in "winning" the bid they forget what they are buying. I've seen a Venice 3200 go over $200 used, when they were $152 at newegg.
My guess is they won't go over $1000, and I'd bet real money they hit $500. Lots of stupid people around.

eBay is nuts. I can't believe what people are willing to pay for used equipment in unknown condition from sellers with little eBay experience with the added risk of getting ripped off and of not having the item match its description. I've observed this when looking for video cards on eBay--it's insane.

I've wondered if I might be able to make money by finding ways to buy video cards at very low prices and then eBaying them. I guess CPUs are the same way.

Pay close attention to what is really being sold for £380. Hint: It's not an xbox360 and it declared clearly that it is not an xbox360 too.

The world is full of idiots and ebay is where most of them meet.

. . . I don't know what scares me more, that someone paid 400 sterling for an e-mail address while THINKING it was an Xbox 360, or that people on ebay are dumb enough to believe selling from an account like xbox360no1store@hotmail.com makes them more viable.

People on ebay are silly. They jump in quickly with a bid and basically just increase the price right from the gitgo. Most those auctions go for 3 to 7 days before closing. By the end of the first day they often push the price beyond what is acceptable. Bidders often hurt themselves in the pocket. Therefore I dont feel sorry for them due to their stupidity. And then you do have some unscruplous types that enjoy forcing the bid prices up on purpose.

It has it's flaws for sure, but for the informed buyer you really can't beat it. 3 simple rules to follow: 1. Only use Paypal, or some other form of e-pay. DO NOT pay with check or money order! If the seller won't accept that, then don't buy from them. 2. Read the description carefully. Know what you are buying. Is it new or used? If used, what condition? Also, make sure there are pictures of the actual item you are interested in, not a bunch of advertising. 3. Check the sellers user rating. Ratings are everything on ebay. It should be 100% or very close, if it isn't 100% look through their feedback and check the negative ones. A lot of times it is from people that didn't read the description and didn't get what they THOUGHT they were buying, or didn't look at shipping costs and add it to the total price. Thats' another biggie, see how much shipping is. A lot of people have gone to charging enormous shipping fees.... all they are really trying to do is keep their sellers fees lower, so make sure to check that as well.

I almost never bid on anything until the auction is down to 60 seconds or less remaining. This (1) avoids running up the price and (2) usually prevents competing bidders from having time to out bid you. Of course this only works if you can be online when the auction is about to end.

It's not always the best place to shop, but there are some great deals once in awhile. Like all things web-related, trust your instincts and do your homework before making any internet purchase....
