The power light on the CPU is on, but the power button is not operating

This happened since an auto update from Microsoft. The keyboard is not working either

Moved from hot deals.

When you say "power button is not operating", do you mean, that if you switch off power in the back of the PSU, and then switch it back on again, and then press the power button on the front of the PC, it does not power-on and POST? Likewise, if PC is on and power LED is on, pushing and holding down the front power switch for 4-5 seconds does not do a forced-power-off?

If so, you have hardware problems, either the power button itself, or the motherboard, and is unrelated to any Windows Updates.

I'd wonder if you either have a power button mechanical failure, or 5VSB PSU failure if the kbd is running off a port that is 5VSB powered, otherwise two separate issues.

Roll back the MS update or restore the OS partition backup that any sane person would be making religiously if they're letting MS update their OS? Seriously, never let a system auto-update if you don't have a way to UNDO that. It's like russian roulette, except the gun never runs out of chambers and there's more than one bullet.

That stated, I agree with VL that at least the power button is not MS update related, keyboard not as certain.

I've come across rare cases where a motherboard battery was dead and the system wouldn't post, and if you had to set something in the bios away from defaults to get the keyboard to work, that might be relevant too.

Yes I cannot use the power button in the front to turn of or on the CPU only the one in the back. And when I do so, the key board lights up temporarily. That makes it im possible for me to restart the computer in safe mode

Why are you trying to use safe mode? For the moment, do this, in this order:

1) Unplug PSU (or use it's power switch if it has one)

2) Unplug keyboard

3) Unplug case front panel power button from the motherboard pin header it's plugged into.

4) Plug PSU back in (or flip power switch back on)

5) Short together the two motherboard pins that the case front power switch plugged into. A screwdriver tip will do fine for this if they are adjacent pins. If they are not (which would be unusual), use a paperclip or whatever. Make sure you are shorting together the correct two pins.

6) Report back what happens.

If it comes on and boots, either your front panel switch is bad or the keyboard is. If it finishes booting you can hot plug the keyboard if USB, or if PS2 then power off the system then plug in the keyboard and turn it back on again.

If it does not turn on by shorting together the two motherboard pins and you are certain you tried the correct two pins, clear the CMOS with the PSU turned off or unplugged, then replug or turn PSU on and try again, still having the keyboard unplugged until you get it to boot.
