Days before the Iraq war began, veteran Washington Post reporter Walter Pincus put together a story questioning whether the Bush administration had proof that Saddam Hussein was hiding weapons of mass destruction.

But he ran into resistance from the paper's editors, and his piece ran only after assistant managing editor Bob Woodward, who was researching a book about the drive toward war, "helped sell the story," Pincus recalled. "Without him, it would have had a tough time getting into the paper." Even so, the article was relegated to Page A17.

"We did our job but we didn't do enough, and I blame myself mightily for not pushing harder," Woodward said in an interview. "We should have warned readers we had information that the basis for this was shakier" than widely believed. "Those are exactly the kind of statements that should be published on the front page."

Another example of that liberal media. First the NYT, now the post admits to pounding the drums of war. If we can't trust the elected officials or media, how is the unsuspecting public going to be able make rational decisions?

I think the paralysis as a result of 9/11 ran deeper than you or anyone want to acknowledge. The editor probably thinking they don't want to get into losing argument & trouble against powerful bush admin especially with sweeping power granted to them by senate after 9/11 attack.

Damned liberal media.

I gotta say that the media coverage in your country post 9/11 really scared all us feriners that were watching. I'm very reassured that it seems to have been a temporary lapse, one that is understandable for the situation. The current criticism in the media, as well as that Supreme Court decision regarding Guantanemo have gone a long way to restore my faith in your system. I was VERY concerned for awhile there. I hope that your media (and ours, for that matter) will remember this situation and learn from it.

Be sure not to watch Fox News.

Don't you find it ironic how Fox's normal programming pretty much is the complete opposite of their news programs.

I think it's hard for foreigners to understand the feelings that swept through the US post-9/11 (no offense intended, but if you aren't an American it's hard to relate). Or at least it's hard to understand the power of those feelings, even if you can understand where they came from.

I will be the first to admit I was all for bombing the fvck out of anyone even remotely related to 9/11. I was the perfect example of the rabbidly patriotic, "kill-em-all" stereotype American. I'm not proud of that fact, but I'm glad I was able to get my emotions back under control and think rationally about this whole thing. Some people take longer than others to do that, and that's fine. What's REALLY worrying is the people who seem totally unable to do so.

What's REALLY worrying is that those people are the ones still in control of our government!

As a foreigner living in the usa during 9/11 i was also incredibly p%ssed about what happened, and i was in support to go bomb anybody who was responsible; i even thought, good thing bush is in office; now i'm beginning to think that if bush wasnt elected most likely this wouldnt have happened! :)

I had a similar feeling. I remember being glad we had a "good strong leader in office who will do what's necessary". I don't think I've ever felt stupider in my life.

As if anyone elected to the office would not do the same thing. All would talk tough and attack Al Queda around the world. Not many would invade the wrong country and restrict our rights.

Hey, I was pissed off too. A lot of Canadians were killed that day. And I was fvcking scared while it was happening. My best friend had family that worked in the neighbourhood of the WTC, and she was frantic trying to contact them. Took her two days to get the OK.

Since it happened on your territory, targetted against your citizenry, its completely understandable to take it more. . .personally. Viscerally. I don't know the word.

Sophomoric, sprinkled with fake smiles/boobs/lips (oooh Laurie Dhue), generally uninformative, and intermittently entertaining . . . I think FOXNews is exactly like their normal programming.

I've wondered this myself. The TV shows Fox puts out are often more liberal then the other channels. So why is their news nothing but right wing propaganda?

I honestly cannot find a answer for this.

Murdoch doesn't run/own the other Fox channels, just the Fox News and Fox Sport channel.

The media in the United States is a tool of elite multinational corparations.

The media is used to push and further the agendas of these corporations.

Manufacturing consent is the name of the game.
