really, just space saving at this point. It's more a cool-factor like Flash originally was... then they added a whole scripting back-end to it and it is very feature-rich and practical... in time, this will be too. Dare to dream...

I don't know how I feel about it being just an add-on [to Windows in this case] though... they should've done better.

This sort of thing already exists in WindowsBlinds. It's damned hog-like in speed and robustness... and it's not even Java. You get the point.

gee i wonder if that attitude has anything to do with microsofts own java vm that they got sued for.
i think all of you need to read this - this is why microsoft's monopoly is bad for consumers.

1. Include own horrible virtual machine for a competing technology
2. watch consumers pull away from competing technology
3. introduce own technology as a subsitute
4. profit

I heard about it - but what's going on in the suit ? MS JVM ceased distribution months ago, no ? Still damn slow for me on Windows after downloading from Sun... 😕
 
I think its a waste of CPU/GPU, doesnt help me get any more work done, or do work faster. How is having a window turn sideways (and then I have to read the edge if it by turning my head sideways??) when I can just minimize it to the task bar? Functionally, its the same, just a different visial effect, yipee, so computer nerds can try to impress thier friends with it.

Come back when you have something useful.
 
Looks like a series of fun ideas with some eye candy and little to no practical application.

Consider that if you have angled windows so you can see them all while you work on something else, then you are still using up screen space.

It's basically a highly visual taskbar... I can keep track of my files good enough that I don't need that crap.

Maybe I stopped reading too early, but my guess is that it is free because it will suck.
 
Microsoft already had something like this YEARS ago (I had an old video of it at one point, but I'm not sure if I do anymore).

I'm not sure if they canned the project or not. Anyway theirs looked rather stupid 😛
 
Java is fine for applications that spend most of their time waiting for user input (most business applications). But for applications like this one that has alot of graphics processing java is probably not the most efficient way to go.

actually im sure they render the stuff via opengl (java supporsts it fully... just about everything does) and just use java for the actuall coding
 
I remember seeing a similar demo from MS a few years back. Too bad I don't remember the name or have the link anymore, but I am pretty sure there is nothing new here.
