Liberal is a concept you have in your head that was put there by assumptions you accept and I reject. I have my own ideas as to what a liberal is.

Just two examples. I don't believe in welfare or gun control but I call that sensibly liberal.

C'mon, dude. You know the vast majority of the GOP has no clue what "Ping" means. It would be like asking Democrats to define charity without using the word "taking".

Why is it that Conservatives give so much money to charities that they can't even begin to scratch the surface of the needs. The Neptune society will give you a box that sinks beneath the waves after a few minutes so your relatives don't get your ashes in their faces when they dump you overboard, but the Pharos were able to erect pyramids. You can't cut near as much with a feather as you can with a sword.

Are you suggesting that charities should have slave labor available?
 
It amazes me that so many in the current crop of GOP wants to over-turn Dubya's immigration bill and find the Pope to be too liberal. Really??!!

With that being said, I'm not so sure if this bill to honor the pope is anything necessary; why is this something they are worrying about when we need to get the highway transportation stuff taken care of.

I thought liberals hated Bush and everything he stood for?
 
Francis I is too conservative (as in hamiltonian) just like all of his predecessors have been.

Hamilton favored forced redistribution of wealth more than Jefferson did and I know that because Jefferson fired the bureaucracy which was made up of people who couldnt help themselves. Most bureaucrats would be poor or dead if they didnt have the structure the State provides them.
 
and for the record, jesus was a classical liberal or even an anarcho-capitalist. he didnt advocate violence that the welfare statists do.
 
Um duh? Pretty much everyone that existed in the past and almost all people in the present are too liberal for current Republicans (including large swaths of current republicans). They would have just been considered batshit crazy back then so it's not shocking that the current Pope is too liberal.

It's being fought precisely because it allows people to make congress unproductive (can't have congress or the president look good) while not gridlocking something beneficial, which would make the opposition look particularly bad as well.

I was suggesting that charity to which all of society is taxed to pay for vastly exceeds the effectiveness in helping that private donations can achieve, but I think you knew that. Social insurance only looks like slavery to sociopathic people, people who have had their empathy killed as children.
 
He's far too liberal. He merely condemns America's nuns for their moaning about things like comparable status and equality. He should be kicking those mouthy ingrates to the curb.

He is saying charities are not enough to sustain people. Charities do not collect nearly enough of anything to make a dent in helping people on a mass scale such as welfare. Im not saying i agree with our current welfare system, but im not dumb enough to think we can get rid of it and charities will fill in the void left behind.

It is official, conservatives have nothing to do religion. They pick religion, just as righteous coat of paint on their ugly true self.

If speaking out only against unbridled greed makes you a communist and a severe "leftist", I'd hate to see what you call real communists.
