Bipartisan bill honoring the Pope for his work towards social justice is bogged down in committee because Republicans think he's too liberal.
Out of the 221 co-sponsors of the resolution, a mere 19 are GOP members. A Republican supporter of the bill told The Hill that the lack of enthusiasm could be due to the belief that the pope is "too liberal," a perception drawn largely from his criticism of unfettered capitalism and trickle-down economics as well as his calls for a more equal distribution of wealth.

The Republican source told The Hill that some GOP members think Pope Francis is "sounding like [President] Obama. [The pope] talks about equality — he actually used the term ‘trickle-down economics,’ which is politically charged."

On an unrelated note, is anyone else getting an add at the top lately that expands and then won't go away or close?

I was about to reply "Jesus was a liberal", but I see you're ahead of me. :D

I've heard my friend who is a regular church going Catholic say the pope is too liberal. Wouldn't surprise me if some GOP said it as well.

I think the GOP heard the word "helping" and went "No, it's evil, you hear the word hell in there!"

Yes. Let us not forget the great acts of conservative Jesus, such as the Loaves and the Fishes in Matthew 14:13-21

When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had no compassion on them, for they lacked the responsibility to buy insurance and thus didn't bother to heal their sick.

As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”

Jesus replied, “I agree, these loafers should get their own food.”
“Then it is settled. After all, we have here only five loaves of bread and two fish, which we worked hard for,” they answered.

“Bring them here to me,” he said. And he directed the people to get off his lawn. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples, and only they shared in the small feast. The people remained unsatisfied and hungry. The number of those who ate was about five thirteen - Jesus and the 12 disciples.

Feel free to feed as many people with as much magical fish and bread as you can conjure. I won't stop you.

Oh, you aren't conjuring food out of thin air? You're taking money from my wallet? That's a different story altogether. I don't remember the story about Jesus collecting taxes, handing out some stale bread, and using what's leftover to build a football stadium for his wealthy friend.

yeah, from what I hear, he's rubbing a lot of Catholics the wrong way. Republicans are mostly protestant/evangelical, anyway. They've never trusted them catholics in general, so I assume that would trump their specific opinion about one pope.

That being said....why is congress working on a bill "to honor the pope"?
:hmm:

Funny shit is that Jesus was the ultimate liberal, but no conservative retards on this forum will admit that.

So what you guys are saying is that we should make sure Jesus is in our schools and other government buildings? Maybe say a few words in his honor at the beginning of every public gathering?

You'd think they could at least get together on a politically meaningless bill like this but no, not our do-nothing Congress. Sheesh.

I've got conservative Catholic in-laws and liberal Catholic in-laws, their thoughts on the new Pope should be interesting.

No expanding add, or ad.

The ad at the top that expands and stays is called the liberal virus ad. There is no sense to it but it refuses to go away. It is basically a Malware

Dude, you got Proggie Jesus' Loaves and the Fishes story in Matthew completely wrong. It goes like this:

When Proggie Jesus heard what had happened, He withdrew by boat to a prominent place where everyone could see Him. Hearing of this, the crowds flocked to Him on mass transit from the towns. When Proggie Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them and demanded that someone else heal their sick. Then Proggie Jesus demanded that since some people could not afford a physicker, everyone's physicking must be funded by Government.

As evening approached, the disciples came to Him and said, “This is a prominent place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the market and buy themselves some food.”

Proggie Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. I am a great community organizer; I will lead the people in a protest and sue the government to make other people give them something to eat.”

“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.

“Bring them here to Me,” he said. And He directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to Heaven, He pointed out that there is no G-d, only Government. Then He ate them all. Then He said to the people, "You don't have any food because of societal inequality. If not for racism and evil rich people, food would have magically appeared." And lo, Proggie Jesus led the crowd of five thousand men, besides women and children, in a massive protest to urinate on carts and wagons, demand all the benefits accruing to people who had actually worked that week instead of following their favorite leader, and demand that Government take food from other people and feed them. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over and threw them away whilst Proggie Jesus wrote two autobiographies about His life so far and got very rich while decrying rich people.

Perhaps the two parties could get together on a politically meaningless bill honoring the Pope for his work in bringing people to Christ, eh?

No matter how you present the evidence of the conservative brain defect to those who have it, the truth of it will be deflected and denied. These brain defective idiots used to worship a vegetable who, were he President today, they would attack as a flaming liberal.

My fellow liberals, have mercy. If you were as brain dead as these imbeciles you wouldn't want to know it either. We didn't invent the expression, ignorance is bliss, for nothing.

I just wish that those of us who can actually still experience shame didn't feel slimed by the fact that these sad sacks are our fellow Americans. It's so profoundly embarrassing. But if you don't want to be as worthless a piece of shit as they are, all you can do is forgive. But we can cheer ourselves with the knowledge that those who worship their self aggrandizing opinion that they are the party of responsibility, are the least capable of it, and laugh our asses off.

No matter how bad "conservatives" are, at least they're not "liberals".

There are plenty of Catholics that think that this pope is not liberal enough. Catholicism has never really fit in the typical mold of liberal vs conservative. The most recent honeymoon of the Catholic Church and the far right (read: teaparty crowd) along culture war (read: pelvic) issues is an aberration when you consider the plethora of positions the church holds, especially along the lines of social justice. I would even go so far as to say that modern conservatism, with its overly objectivist influence, is incompatible with Catholicism.

Because he's a respected world leader who's working on using the vast power of his station to fight for social justice.

again, why does congress need to sit around and vote on a bill to honor someone?

what the hell is the point to this?
