I'm surprised that the Church is still worried about witchcraft; makes you wonder if they know something we don't.

I watched the Harry Potter movies BEFORE I watched them with my kids. They are not truly movies for youngsters, and do have a heavy theme of right versus wrong that at times is overly simplistic. That being said, it's not much different than X-Men or Superman at times. I get questions from my kids and I answer them. It's very simple.

I call it responsible parenting. Some people should try it sometimes.

The movies, defintatly. The books are enjoyable for any age.
 
Harry Potter books write about magic which is forbidden in the Bible. Read the Bible, people, before jumping to conclusions that the pope and the christians are stupid.

I was thinking a reality TV show with a demon-fighting priest as the protagonist. I'd watch that. Hell, that'd be enough to sign this agnostic up into religion. :Q

I don't disagree with what the Pope is saying but it shouldn't lead to banning your children from watching it. As maluckey pointed out you got to teach them to reason and discern. Besides there are many good things to learn from the novels and movies.
 
The constant theme of friendship is a good one in this series, as is dealing with bullies. My daughter could identify with Harry because she was being bullied as well. She told me that it was nice to see someone else deal with it because it helped her to see different ways of dealing with it emotionally.

Well, the sheer stupidity of Christians who denounce Harry Potter pretty much speaks for itself, so there's certainly no need for any additional bigotry...
 
The main thrust of Kuby's objection to Potter is that the books corrupt the hearts of the young, preventing them from developing a properly ordered sense of good and evil, thus harming their relationship with God while that relationship is still in its infancy.

lol, what a bunch of idiots. The books have strong themes of anti-racism. Hell, Voldemort is like the Hitler of the magic world. He's half blood of what he loathes and he goes around killing non-pure bloods.

Surely we shouldn't push those morals on children.

But anyway, these books aren't really children books. The movies lean a bit more that way, but the books are an all age kind of thing.

seriously, though. everyone who is interested in the education of children should be pretty damn happy kids are reading for pleasure.
its not "dangerous," its obvious fiction for fun and entertainment.
