Looks alright but I think the "wow" American sedan of the year has already been taken by the new CTS-V.

I wouldn't throw her out of bed on a cold winter night but the next morning she'd be getting a warm breakfast and I'd hold the door open for her on the way out.

I would take her for a walk past the glen I like to visit. We'd fish, maybe catch a trout, possibly undercook it at dinner. For a drink we would have some curried es cargo and in the morning perhaps repair my front door. That's what I'd do.

It competes with the Dodge Charger SRT class which is 10k more and beats it in every way.

However, I would also pass on 40k, as with employee pricing you can get a brand new 08 Vette with the base options for about 41.5k.

Also to be noted, I doubt they'll see for 40k for very long, we're already seeing up to 4k discounts on the G8 GT for months now...

G8's are holden cars, vette engines they may be copied from, but the car is built and shipped from Austrailia.

Because we weren't buying them. We were loving our big SUVs. Why should they make a car that no one wants?

If there was a point in that post, I don't see it.

Very nice. If I had $40k laying around, I'd get one.

This begs the question, why are they making it now?

It's not really true that we weren't buying them. The G8 is the replacement for the Grand Prix and Bonneville, and both sold a whole bunch. Its most direct competitor, the Challenger/300, is everywhere. The difference now is that the G8 is actually better than similarly priced imports but because past generation vehicles weren't, it isn't getting the attention from the buying public that it deserves. The reason GM wasn't producing cars like this 10 years ago is because they were run by morons (management) and built by morons (union workers) who didn't give a crap about the quality of product they were putting out because they were more interested in what was ending up in their pocket at that very moment.

No doubt, $40,000 real cars should have non-functional scoops and fake carbon fibre parts like the Challenger SRT8.

Maybe marketing figured that baby boomer's are tired of SUV's that offer the automotive excitement of a breadbox with a V8 and want a sedan that can livable as a DD and offer the performance this one does. I like the suttle performance cues instead of the "boy toy" cladding as well, kind of a "sleeper" look. Too bad GM is in such bad financial shape these days, might make a lot of potential buyers look elsewhere..
