this.

I don't get this sentiment. Find another car that can achieve what this one can, for a comparable price, and I will concede your point, but I don''t see any out there. Hell, find me another 400+bhp midsize sedan with a manual transmission and a competent chassis for anywhere near $40K. This thing is a viable 550i competitor (at least in capabilities) for 328i money. Very very impressive package for $40K IMO.

All of that being said, would I buy one? Probably not. I'm a BMW guy! Still, I don't doubt I'd love the car for the most part if I drove one, and the ownership experience would probably also be fun overall.

i'd rather have a 3 series, or several other $40k sedans

As would I - that's why I own one - but that doesn't negate the enormous price-performance value of the G8 GXP.

The G8 is a large sedan, size comparable to the 5 series, not the 3 series. The GT was performance comparable to the 550i, so we know the GXP should beat it pretty soundly. Try getting a 550i for $40k.

According to the link provided by the OP, this thing puts down numbers similar to an M5. Not bad at all for 40k.

Best part is, with American brand depreciation, you'll probably see these for less than half that MSRP in a couple years.

well, cars are all about compromises. i'd like it more if i got a better interior with a few less hp and lose the fake scoops.

The G8's interior isn't bad, certainly above the standards that GM has had in years past, but I wouldn't mind a better one either. That said, it wouldn't even cross my mind to pay $20k for a better interior and hood scoop delete, and that's for a baseline 550i, which as Richard Hammonds says, includes all the air in the cabin and that's about it. You could easily get a custom interior and new hood for less than that if it really was that much of an issue.

Well for a mere $2k more you CAN get the commodore conversion kit.

Why does that car look so much better than what we get over here?

The HSV front lower fascia looks good, I don't like the standard commodore. I wouldn't do the conversion, especially replacing all the badges with Holden ones. That just reeks of something a ricer would do putting Type-R badges and what not on their import.

it's a 4000lb car with a 400hp engine, and no ridiculous gearing. 14/20 is not bad.

the base vette is down several hundred pounds and geared extra tall to improve its gas mileage.

of course, no one complains about the horrendous gas mileage of the S4/S5/RS4/M3/etc. :disgust:

you don't buy this car for gas mileage, quite obviously.

Also the 361HP V8 Pontiac G8 GT gets better gas milage. So if oyu want more power then 250hp then get the GT. The GXP is the high end one. The GT can be had for about 10k less.

Also, with a relatively inexpensive custom tune, you get the performance of the gxp.
