I have the video on my computer, would be interested in hosting but I have no host or FTP... If you want to see it, PM me and maybe we can work together somehow...

Thank you for the music. I myself have also never heard of "The Planets" as I don't follow the orchestral stuff but then after hearing it I know its been used in movies..etc. Great, great stuff!
What do you folks use to listen to "march" because thats the only one that doesn't work for me. Windows Media Player doesn't recognize it.
Yeah, it doesn't work for me in Winamp either.Originally posted by: raystorm

Good Question. The mods haven't said anything so I have continued. If they say something I 'll take them down immediately. I am proceeding along the general premise that these are recommendations for people to find classical music that they like and will then purchase more of. I realize that some classical music is deemed public domain, but will not profess to knowing what is considered as such.
Because of pioneering versions of threads like this in the past, I have bought a variety of cds. I bought a few HDCD heifetz Cds, the entire Denon 24/7 Library, and pretty much every Telarc Sampler ever made.Hell, even my own threads, due to some of the responses, have inspired me to buy more CDs.
*looks to his left at a stack of cds that he purchased and still ahsn;t ripped onto his PC:*
That said, I have a lot more than what I post...I am just giving everyone a taste of what i have. Simply said, I am attempting to introduce people to the beauty that is classical music, something many have forgotten or have not yet encountered.
As a violinist of many years, I assure you, my intent is not to be malicious or deviant in any way. I just want to share one of the things that brings joy to my life![]()

I understand your love of music, and I'm not trying to shut down your thread. However (having read the pertinent sections of the U.S. code more than a few times) I can tell you that individual performances of classical compositions are protected by copyright.

I own a copy of this one, performed by the Montreal Symphony:

It's considered to be one of the better recordings of the Planets suite, and is certainly a nice performance with excellent sonics.

It sucks, I know. I believe that our laws are really screwed up right now, but that's the way it is. Also, please realize that what I'm really after is to protect you, although I think it's a very slim chance that anyone at the record companies in question will read this particular geeks-only board anyway.
I'm wondering now if there might not be good-quality public-domain performances out there, but my guess is that there are not. High-caliber musicianship doesn't come cheap. What we really need is a great public-domain orchestra; I understand completely the effect that a particular soloist or conductor can have on a recording. (I often collect conductors-- just got done with the complete Karajan on CD.)
