Just wondering, why do so many people use that term? And where did it come from?

I'm thinking people are copying it from Office Space or that its REALLY bad English grammer, but just wanted to ask the people who do use that phrase why they use it.

It started in the Hot Deals forum many months ago. A great prophet once said that "Staples is suck." :)

well, i know for a fact that it was used way before april 2000... i was talking to Deicide, and he said that some Asian started saying it (like over a year ago) because he didnt know how to use the word suck, so everyone started using it...

Way back in the day, I think it was agreed that RipRidah first keyed in the immortal phrase "Staples is suck". Maybe there's an earlier instance, but I thought it was this one.

And the is-suck.com site was started from some folks from here, after "...is suck" became popular.

No that website was made in honor of the phrase. We've actually had several threads that were designed to convene the "Grammar Board" of AT...deciding whether if the subject were plural we could use "are suck" instead of "is suck" ... but it was determined that all forms of "suck" should be "is suck":

You "is" suck
Your friends "is" suck
Staples "is" suck

Oh and it WAS RipRidah. Thanks kranky, I couldn't remember his name. :D

Thx for asking BITCH, I was wondering about this too. So is it isolated to Anandtech or if you go other places do people use it? It was used so often around here, I was beginning to think it was one of those CrAzY internet terms like pr0n or warez that I had just never heard of before.

Yes, RipRidah first coined the term, probably not knowing it was wrong, and definitely not knowing that it would become widely used, lol.

okay, I've seen this movie a million times, it didn't come from this movie.

many people watch the trailer where they are in the car after they find out that the virus didn't work, and the foriegn dude goes "This... this.. is a SUCK!" but in the real movie, he says "This.. this.. is a FUC#!" they just edited the trailer. and it came from this forum, long time ago, before office space was out
