George Allen: Man of the White People

"Barnstorming around Virginia in the re-election campaign that Republican Senator George Allen hopes will provide the impetus for his 2008 run for the presidency, he has suddenly been forced on the defensive. Time and again, he has felt compelled to explain that his mocking of S.R. Sidarth, a young Indian-American staff member for his Democratic opponent, as "macaca," or monkey, was an unintentional gaffe. "It was a mistake. I made a mistake," he told a reporter from a local NBC affiliate at a campaign stop on Thursday. Hours later, he told the ABC affiliate, "It was a mistake, I was wrong." On Fox News's Sean Hannity show, he echoed, "It was a mistake."

But was it an isolated "mistake"?

Only a decade ago, as governor of Virginia, Allen personally initiated an association with the Council of Conservative Citizens, the successor organization to the segregationist White Citizens Council and among the largest white supremacist groups."

We seek Christ's for office and lamblast them when they come up short or make a mistake. The two events you describe are isolated and without more facts concerning his relationship with that group (it is hard to be in Congress and not vote for much you don't like to get what you do passed for example) it is hard to pidgeonhole him. Did he join the group because of his racist views or because they were conservative and he agreed with a majority of their views?

If he apologizes for the comment and the individual involved accepts the apology than I think it should be let go. I think what the Republicans did to Clinton for an affair is as stupid as holding this man in perpetual purgatory for a stupid comment. Forgive but be on watch for patterns.

I have voted democratic in the last two elections because I personally disagree with most of Bush's policies but I won't blindly be against a Republican because he/she makes a mistake. Now if you state that voting democrat is the same as legislating sin like Harris did then I would be inclined to vote against you because you because you have verbalized a complete lack of common sense (and realization that we are all Americans, for those of you reading this forum and are American of course 😉 )

Another Republicans are racist post, try these wonderful quotes:

// "I am a former kleagle of the Ku Klux Klan in Raleigh County and the adjoining counties of the state .... The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia .... It is necessary that the order be promoted immediately and in every state of the Union. Will you please inform me as to the possibilities of rebuilding the Klan in the Realm of W. Va .... I hope that you will find it convenient to answer my letter in regards to future possibilities." ? Robert Byrd in letter to Klan Imperial Wizard Samuel Green of Atlanta, April 8, 1946.

In another letter Byrd wrote that he would never serve in the military "with a Negro by my side. Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."

Wow a Democrat who was a racist... who'd have thought that could be possible.

I don't think any party can be claimed to be racist. Parties don't look at races, they look at potential voters.

However, George Allen really doesn't belong in the Senate.

Racism is an equal opportunity employer--------for over 70 years they talked about a solid Jim Crow democratic South---and it was the GOP---as the party of Lincoln--that was
supposed to promote racial equality---but it was and still is too busily engaged in promoting the interests of big business over the interests of the common man. People like Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt are just are anomolies to be dusted off and showcased when convient.

The point being---Byrd---and even George Wallace changed----can we say anything similar about the grace of Allen?

If he doesn't belong because of this one comment then we should exclude the following people as well:

Joe Biden, Democrat senator ?In Delaware, the largest growth of population is Indian Americans, moving from India. You cannot go to a 7/11 or a Dunkin? Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I?m not joking.?

Hillary Clinton "Its from Mahatma Gandhi. He ran a gas station down in St. Louis for a couple of years. Mister Gandhi ? you still go to the gas station? A lot of wisdom comes out of that gas station."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1Mq8kOXV_E

Robert Byrd "Men and races of men differ in appearance, ways, physical power, mental capacity, creativity, and vision. One man is born blind. Another is born lame. Geniuses are not made; they are born. Between two individuals, as between two races, there are broad differences." said in 1964, LONG after he claimed to have left the KKK.

Byrd is a Dixiecrat, don't lump him is with real Dems. Next thing you will say Lieberman and Zell Miller are Democrats.

Hey Commie:

Imagine my chagrin when I used a search engine to find commentary about myself, and there was your shallow, dilettante, asshole self, labeling me a "white supremacist."

Being the shallow, ******-loving dilettante that you are, you probably DO consider ****** to be your equal (who am I to question this?): Yet, unlike you and your allies, I have an I.Q. in excess of 130, which grants me the ability to objectively evaluate the Great American Nigro (Africanus Criminalis.)

(much more)

Read the letter, it's from a co-host of one of the guys in that pic, written in 2003. Great crowd there...

racism has no party affiliation, it's a disease that effects all parties, dems, repubs, indys, green, etc.... However, this pile of fly puke needs to be put in a hole, far away from any governmental powers and decisions.

ProfJohn,

My comment had little to do with Senator Allen's recent comment 🙂 I just don't think he is a good Senator.

If he is not a "real dem" then explain why he was the Democratic leader in the senate from 1977 to 1989???

We aren't talking about some crazy person who is shunned by the party, ala McKinney, but someone who is held in high regard and voted into positions of power by his fellow Democrats.

Why do you make excuses for Byrd's racist past, yet jump up and down and scream bloody murder after Allen makes one stupid comment?

BTW: I am now a category 4 huricane, don't mess with me or I'll blow your house down.

One stupid comment? LOL. He said something clearly racist, twice within five minutes and has clear associations with racist groups in a state full of racist. Let me know when Byrd runs for President and see how much I support the old kook.

Are you saying Virginia is a state full or racist or West Virginia?

BTW: Hillary and Joe Biden are both running for president and have both made "racist" comments that are just as bad as Allen.

The plantation remark from Clinton? Oh please. Pretty sure that's not on the same level with Macacca. Thanks for trying though.

I don't even like Hillary, and I think that's a tough comparison.

SIXTY YEARS AGO???? WTF does that have to do with TODAY'S STUPID RACIST POLITICIANS?

You will find a way to rationalize anything even if you make no sense whatsoever.. eh?

I could have sworn this thread was about George Allen, not Robert Byrd. You might consider commenting on the actual subject at hand, otherwise you risk looking like a party hack.
I think it's pretty clear this guy needs to go away. He was aggressive and racially offensive toward that cameraman and doesn't belong in public service. Of course, he won't go away, which only makes the Republicans chances of retaining power that much dimmer.

I think the easiest thing to say here is that if you make sweeping generalizations as to the morality of all the people in a party, then you're a fool.

Yeah, it's very hard to mess with, that's why they don't give you an option for a paper trail. That's why they taught a monkey how to switch votes from one side to the other and he was able to do it by himself after watching someone do it 3 times. Yeah, Diebold is the heart of goodness and purity when it comes to the U.S. voting system. Give me a break. Just because your family works for Diebold doesn't mean Diebold is a good company, it just means members of your family are lucky enough in today's economy to be collecting a paycheck.

I was referring to the voters as the 'people in a party'.
