Yep. I have to admit that the AE is currently the favorite of my sound cards (I own or have used almost all the commercial level sound cards out there). Wasn't alway that way though. I wasn't so impressed with it about two years when it first came out. The drivers sucked and the CPU overhead was massive compared to my old SBLive. What improvements I gained over the SBLive at that time was not worth the headache. It wasn't until recently that I decided to give it another try with the current v1.89 drivers. I was amazed at how much of an improvement they were. If I had to choose between my AE, my Audigy, and my Santa Cruz as the only sound card to own right now, I'd probably pick the AE. Now the current drivers still has some minor bugs, ie. the occasional garbled sound with some games like UT and NHL2002 that requires a game restart, but other than, they're pretty solid.
The only thing that concerns me is that Philips sound cards are quickly disappearing from all the shelves of the major dealers in my area (MA). Circuit City has had them priced for clearance at $49.95 for months now and they are not replacing what they sell. Ditto for BestBuy, CompUSA, MicroCenter, etc. etc.. It seems that they are all dropping the Philips series of sound cards in favor of Creative and Guillemot, with maybe Turtle Beach still hanging on in most places. Hopefully, this does not lead to Philips leaving the sound card market due to poor sales. Would hate to not have any more driver updates.
