I just point it out because it makes it difficult to really state much at all about Jesus outside of the teachings in the Bible. And using the Bible as reference, what may be true and literal or not is a matter of faith.

That's exactly what i used to think, but in fact there is a lot of evidence towards not only him but other events mentioned in the bible from other sources at the time, including some of the noted historians of the first couple of centuries.
